Thought he was excellent and Grimes in open play, played well with others playing or covering the defensive roles but Ballard was the heart of the Sunderland team whol came to the game to defend the lead which can be a very dangerous game especially a slender one goal lead, it was only in extra time that Sunderland looked the more dangerous team with Coventry reverting to waiting for the mistake which did come but they didn't capitalise.
In some ways wanted Coventry to go on to promotion to gain money from the sale of Grimes if there was such a clause but seeing a team succeed with four ex Swansea players would be a bit galling even though each of the players had their merits while donning the Swansea shirt it would point to the poor use of them by a number of managers. |  | | |

He was a defensive weakness at the heart of our midfield that needed the right players around him, very rarely was he the main defensive midfielder in tonight's game that was left to others, Grimes at his best when further forward and looking for the quick first time pass otherwise he would slow it down. I watched the second half and ET last night and I saw absolute nothing other than a steady, cautious approach to his game. A few lifted passes to the flanks stood out but were nothing exceptional. He didnāt cut defences open with killer passes. He didnāt waltz through the opposition midfield to create a goalscoring chance.
Heās not a bad footballer of course, far from it. But why the plaudits he gets from some quarters truly baffles me.

The main concern for me was his lack of pace meaning once turned he would not be able to get back to recover balls lost unless someone else held the play up allowing him to get back. It led to big holes appearing in the midfield if he pushed on or dropped deep it meant unless we adopted a all men get behind the ball mentality we were wide open to attack through the middle leaving us outnumbered when balls delivered into the box. | | | |

Itās a good point you make, for all the passing and specialist kicks unfortunately as he did for us it just doesnāt work. Yes, he is a good footballer but a lot of it is faff, it frustrated me to hell when he was with us. |  |
