Another one gone

Surely the average lifespan of a Championship Manager / Head Coach is less than a year now?

Madness

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Think I heard recently the average tenure is eight months. Bonkers.

Luckily Watford bring that average down a bit or it would probably be over a year.

And currently 4/1 favourite to be a next Queens Park Rangers FC manager. I´m not kidding

Not surprising given their recent form and the fact that it's Watford. They're now looking for their 10th permanent head coach since Nigel Pearson was sacked in the summer of 2020. Frankly, Tom did well to last 14 months.

Not bad work though. If every manager was on, let's say, a 3-year contract, and they each got a new job within 4 months of getting sacked from the previous one, that would equate to 9 years' salary in 3 years. I'm sure many people wouldn't mind getting sacked regularly if it meant tripling their income!!!

I think in practice the club they leave either agree a settlement.
So, if they had a year left they might agree to pay them 6 months in one go.
Or, the club carries on paying them a salary until they get employed again, at which point the new club effectively agree a new contract and start paying them.

You can usually tell who is in this situation by looking at the panel on Monday Night Football.

Lovely work if you can get it, paid to fail and its never anyone's fault!

A lot of people saying Cleverly was harshly done by, but after watching some of those Ben Foster videos with Watford fannying around on Airplanes for away games with Premier League players in the squad I'm not so sure!

Massive budget, should be top half easily

Are they not in their 3rd year of a P&S cycle? Much like we were after Warburtons splurge for playoffs.

I think that Watford still have a lot of quality in their first team, and their league position is probably under par for their budget

Didn't they sell Aprilla for big money recently as well?

Initially thought they were hard done by. But the first half of the season really propped them up. 7th in the table after the first 21 games, dead last in the table for the final 25 games. Massive drop off.

Indeed. Think it was Mourinho who said he's earned more in pay-offs than wages. He also said that you're not a coach until you've been sacked.
