Saints Managers The Fans Have Actually Liked 08:53 - May 7 with 894 views | SaintNick | Given that we have had about 35 managers since Chris Nicholl was sacked in 1991, how many have our supporters actually liked and not wanted sacked at some stage. Alan Ball Glenn Hoddle Gordon Strachan Alan Pardew Nigel Adkins Mauricio Pochettino Ronald Koeman I would say that is about it, ironically the last 3 were appointed by Les Reid who got slagged off a lot on here for being useless

It certainly wasn't dull with him though. Burley was occasionally entertaining, but ultimately a complete failure. Nigel Pearson was a genuine bloke and did what he was asked to do, but was then treated badly by Lowe, and we lived to regret that. Les Reed had some good times, but then it went to his head and he completely lost the plot.

Paul Sturrock might have been good but never got the chance, the Chairman succumbing to player power it seemed to me. Another case of changing horses midstream resulting in relegation disaster.

Souness was an awful manager, not sure how you could like him. Nicholl i really enjoyed, especially the 4-2-4 period. I also enjoyed some of Ralph's tenure but by the end he'd gone stale. Pardew i never really got on with, no idea why i just found him infuriating as a manager. Otherwise Nick's list is spot on.

Dave merrington and Nicholl were both liked by the fans. 1989/90 was one of my favorite seasons

Souness was a mixture of great and awful. On a good day, we were a joy to watch. Berkovic was a cracking player, and he also signed Claus and Ostenstad, both pretty good signings for the club. The problem as ever was the defence. But we somehow escaped relegation despite needing snookers at one point. And he did inherit a team that had escaped relegation on the last day of the previous season under Merrington.

Strachan was effective and a great character, but the football wasn’t that exciting. Loved us going from L1 to the Premier under Adkins. Hoddle was fantastic but an absolute tosser for the way he left us.

Poch is obviously a great manager, but Koeman I liked more. Adkins I liked a lot. Alan Ball was brilliant when he came to the club and we beat Newcastle away, 2 1 with no away fans up there that day. Le Tissier scored a cracker. Hoddle wasn't here long before he deserted us for Spurs. Strachan, yeh I liked him. [Post edited 7 May 17:32]
