It had the look of football a few years back where Tipp put extra men in defence to stop Cork running in behind on goal, but meant they were short handed up front when they won the ball back and were shooting from out wide. Cork had chances closer and more central and could hardly miss in the first half…unless it was just unusually gusty at the Hill end. I thought once Cork were six up at halftime they could sit back and let Tipp come onto them and collect goals on the break. It’s one thing to totally freeze on the big day (cough, cough, Milk Cup), another to get the job more than half done and totally seize up. I’m struggling to think of a bigger implosion in a team sport. Not just to lose it at the death but to get so completely flattened. All Blacks-France 1999? Broncos-Penrith 2023? Headingley 1981?
