The GAA on 22:23 - Jul 20 by MrSheen | It had the look of football a few years back where Tipp put extra men in defence to stop Cork running in behind on goal, but meant they were short handed up front when they won the ball back and were shooting from out wide. Cork had chances closer and more central and could hardly miss in the first half…unless it was just unusually gusty at the Hill end. I thought once Cork were six up at halftime they could sit back and let Tipp come onto them and collect goals on the break. It’s one thing to totally freeze on the big day (cough, cough, Milk Cup), another to get the job more than half done and totally seize up. I’m struggling to think of a bigger implosion in a team sport. Not just to lose it at the death but to get so completely flattened. All Blacks-France 1999? Broncos-Penrith 2023? Headingley 1981? There’s a joke on the go in Ireland that a cork man ended getting more points on his license than Cork got in the second half after speeding away from Croke park. Strangely I thought Tipp were still in it at half time. The Cork goal gave the scoreline a flattering look but that was an unbelievable tonking in the end.

Well, hello from Dublin! Is it me, but as a pup I'm sure there was a two week gap between finals, and they took place in September. Not a hint of an edge between fans.

I’m in Dublin too, hotel full of Donegal folk, pubs adorned with flags of both sides, lovely atmosphere as always. Final was always in September when I was a young lad, again not sure why it’s been brought forward. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The GAA decided to switch up the hurling and football finals back to July ( incredibly stupid and greedy IMO ) to get more games (round robin league format ) and really cash in. This frees up the players to play with their local parish teams for their county championship during late summer and finish before the winter slog hit and games were played in horrible conditions. Also player welfare was supposed to be an issue but with more games in Spring/early Summer not sure that is working out. There is rumours the new GAA President is keen on moving the finals back to September lets hope that passes . Kerry to win by 6 points its coming home to Killarney tomorrow

There's a reason I call this site Loftipedia. I've just explained this to a crowd of people. Now, one guys asked that his wife's complaining of not being satisfied and asks, can you give any tips.

As a club man, Brian was very much in favour of the move to separate the competitions but as someone who only saw the All Ireland games on holiday I’m sorry that it’s all over before I get there now. Even if my counties aren’t involved it’s a pleasure driving through an area and seeing all the flags out and the good luck signs.
