Happy enough that he's staying if we can get another 30-35 games out of him next season. Clearly seems to be a great bloke.

Announcement seemed very at pains to go into the specifics of why he's got the new deal/extension been triggered. Way more information then would normally be shared by current regime. Have my negative lens on permanently re: club announcements evidently atm but seems worded in a way to make sure they get no blame if he's crocked all year. It wouldn't be their fault as its a preexisting clause but the announcement reads oddly compared to other missives from the club of late.

"We didn't want to keep him on as he earns more money than we'd like - but we're contractually obliged, so..."

I agree with the posters who have said that the wording of the announcement clearly indicates some reticence on the club's part.

Way too much detail in exactly how the extension was triggered compared to the normal contract information blackout. With a little bit of injury detail thrown in.

I'm guessing that's based on the wage size as opposed to outright not wanting him around. Thinking back to Clive letting us know that the club had to bend over backwards (forwards?) and offer him very good terms just to agree to come here, you can understand how the new regime might feel he's overpriced especially with the injury situation.

Feels like a lot of next season's stability will be about Cook and JCS's availability.

As posted several times, he had an option on his side for another year, subject to his availability this year. Same deal with Colback as I understand but no idea if he made enough appearances.

Middling news in my personal opinion - he’s a solid professional who until his injury was available and not phoning it in on the pitch, but he didn’t move his family back for £5k a week so he will be taking up a chunk of budget that I can imagine the club would rather use elsewhere.

You did indeed post that and I admit I was sceptical. But you appear to have been right on this, at least for Cook.

Your posts about Cifuentes, which I was also sceptical about, appear to have proven right as well. You clearly have knowledge that few if any of us have privy to, and I will take more account of your posts in the future.

I had heard (probably 3rd or 4th hand, and can’t remember who from) that Colback’s wasn’t the same regards the extension. Everything else in terms of very low Y1 salary (to get through FFP) and then a big salary in Y2, was the same as with Cook, so this extension for him will take a sizeable chunk of the wage bill. However, I didn’t understand Colback’s deal to include an option on his side, just ours. Let’s see.

My personal view, I’d much rather have Cook extend a year than Colback. He’s 36 in October. There have to be players as effective 5-10 years younger who we could sign on similar or reduced wages. That is where the club’s recruitment team should be earning their corn. Christ, they could probably go and sign Hayden for the same money as Colback and I think he’d be a serious improvement. Him, Varane, and Field would be a serious midfield 3. With Cook and JCS beyond, you’d hope we’d be pretty rock solid defensively and very physical.

I cannot say that im that happy going for another season with cook as our first choice and will be more than surprised if he plays more than half of the games.
We do need to sign an adequate cover up for him/or a one who is in the starting XI and cook on the bench.

It seems to be that Cook was entitled to an extension of an extra 12 months IF
a) he played 60 games in the initial 2 seasons
b) QPR remained in the Championship

Both those conditions were met, therefore he gets the extension.

Not sure about the moving his family, when I did my training ground visit the guy told us that Cook travels to and from Bournemouth each day from his family home.

Agree he must be one of our highest paid players if he got an extension and considering his latest injury it was a concern as to his future availability, still personally think he is worth the deal for all the qualities he will bring in addition to his playing ability.

I meant him moving his family up to Nottingham for the crazy deal they were offering him and then 18 months later bringing them back to Bournemouth again - he didn’t give up that contract and upfront the kids again for an average deal here, but as said I think he’s been worth it over the last 2 seasons.

Contractually do we extend at his Y2 rate or as an average of the Y1 and Y2 salary? Hopefully the latter and we still have a small reduction in wage bill.

Generally I think it's poor form to make it clear that Cook has triggered the clause. I'm sure if it had been Dunne extending due to a contract clause the reporting would have been much more triumphant in tone rather than the begrudging tone they've taken. Not fair on Cook who's been a good role model at the club.

Annoying and disappointing he is staying purely based on his wage and that he can't pass.

For me

1) We don’t know his wage
2) I think he is the best passing CB we have (excluding Ronnie)
3) Nice stop gap for Morrison who will hopefully have 50-100 Championship appearances by the time Cook’s contact expires.

What's interesting is the wording of the announcement.

One minute we are not allowed to know the details of any contracts the next they are telling us about a trigger clause in a contract.

Talk about playing your audience.

Our season is going to be defined by Cookie and JCS at centre half. There is a lot of our budget tied up with these two. Hope our man in Dubai has some new software on his laptop.

Cooks deal and contract structure precedes Nourry’s time, he doesn’t agree with it, but reluctantly has to accept it. That is what is being played out. Thus, the contract detail is being provided on a one off basis because in this instance, it in fact aids Nourry. He wants to make clear the power is out of his hands, and distance himself from Ainsworths prior decision-making.

Sounds unprofessional and unfair on the player involved, possibly effecting his morale. Our CEO should be doing what's best for the club not trying to score points for himself.

It’s a shame you’ve passed into gleefully hoping users are proved wrong at the expense of the club.

If you are sceptical about ITK claims, can’t you just shrug your shoulders? In this case and others Lassel, North, Hunter, and Mart Goblin amongst others are being proven right. Is that not worth anything or deserving of some contrition?

I don’t understand the Nourry Uber Alles mentality. Can it really just be motivated by petty resentments at users on a fan forum? Sad if true.

It’s a football forum Bazza: if posters don’t want to be challenged over what they write then perhaps don’t post stuff that that they won’t/can’t substantiate as facts? Lassel himself said he would post full disclosure about how he claims to know so much about Cifuentes, contracts, Nourry etc etc when Cifuentes left so what’s your issue? He also posted that Cook was planning to retire at the end of the season and that Dunne was signing a new contract in January by the way so I wouldn’t be in thrall to his every word if I were you.

Like most QPR supporters I support the club, not Nourry or Cifuentes. It’s a bit playground to accuse people of being Nourry lovers isn’t it?

Yeah but it only goes one way John.

You disappeared like a fart in a hurricane when Lassel was right.

Not called anyone a Nourry lover either. Half the interpersonal problems on this thread are from people imagining slights.

Again, so says the man who was adamant that 45 points would be enough for survival and QPR could lose their final 7 games and still stay up. The man who now claims QPR were as good as safe come Cardiff and then denies saying it even though it's all there in black and white. The man who called other posters "bed wetters" for (rightly) being concerned about QPR's perilous league position some weeks ago. Now you've the gall to request others just shrug their shoulders and show contrition in the face of idle speculation. Perhaps take a leaf out of your own book and start by showing contrition before expecting it from others.

They’re building up to the big one. The announcement of the Taylor Richards contract extension.

Don't even joke about it. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a clause in his contract that triggers a 4 year extension if he has a good haircut or learns how to make scones.
