Happy enough that he's staying if we can get another 30-35 games out of him next season. Clearly seems to be a great bloke.
Announcement seemed very at pains to go into the specifics of why he's got the new deal/extension been triggered. Way more information then would normally be shared by current regime. Have my negative lens on permanently re: club announcements evidently atm but seems worded in a way to make sure they get no blame if he's crocked all year. It wouldn't be their fault as its a preexisting clause but the announcement reads oddly compared to other missives from the club of late.
I agree that this is clearly a case of him being in the driving seat in securing the extension. His original deal must've stipulated he had a 2-yr contract plus 1 more year IF we were not in L1 and he'd made x amount of starts.
Nothing we ot the club could do... he's gonna be here picking up very sizeable wages (by our standards) for another season.
I think even fully fit we'd be lucky to get 30 games out of him but that foot injury will mess his balance/gait up and I suspect he'll get various twinges/tweaks associated with that. I'm thinking he'll miss more games than he plays and will have two lengthy absences.
Hopefully I'm wrong and he turns back the clock and has a blinding campaign but I worry that him and JCS won't play 46 games in total between them... we could do with pulling two more "Ronnie Edwards" out the hat to be safe..

Our league status was as good as known six weeks ago v Cardiff.
No reason why you can’t spend the previous year negotiating for each outcome either.
I know it felt like that after Cardiff, but we were still on 46 points and lots going on with Marti behind the scenes. I think we can give the club a pass, on not announcing contracts immediately. Going to be a long close season and we need to cling on to the bits of good news.

I didn’t realise his foot injury had led to permanent disability. He’ll be disappointed to find that out.

Yeah this is true.
Stability a underrated virtue in a football club.
Disagree about drip. Patronises the fans in my opinion.

Yeah I was wrong. It happens. Not sure I was adamant though and it certainly was the case 3 out of the last 5 seasons so not really preposterous.
Not sure what it’s got to do with what I said either.
You certainly were adamant but hey, I forgive you. Now you're claiming that our league status was as good as known after Cardiff. Contracts don't work on the basis of "as good as". The extension could only be triggered once QPR were mathematically safe.

Again, not what I said.

What's interesting is the wording of the announcement.
One minute we are not allowed to know the details of any contracts the next they are telling us about a trigger clause in a contract.
Talk about playing your audience.
Our season is going to be defined by Cookie and JCS at centre half. There is a lot of our budget tied up with these two. Hope our man in Dubai has some new software on his laptop.

I’m happy he’s staying as long as we haven’t spent all the money. His leadership, influence and attitude is important for the team and the club.
Morrison will play a big part too but we’ll need at least one more CB to cover those three, maybe 2 if they can also play RB/LB.
That’s a lot of wages tied up on players that won’t play the majority of games and a fair bit of disruption - again.
Edwards gave us another level of technique and ability but in addition I think that he was always available and that provided us with a good level of consistency. Not sure how we replicate that if there’s regular rotation.
Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Have no issue with Cookie staying, the right sort as the old cliche goes and useful in the squad when we already don't have many options.
Would love us to knock all this one announcement a day stuff on the head though. Just give us a released, retained and contracts offered list. one of the first team, one for the scholars, job done, enjoy your summer.
They’re building up to the big one. The announcement of the Taylor Richards contract extension.

...and that's a lot of assumptions about likely appearances tied up in one post. Understandable caution / cynicism re JCS, but Cook's record over the years is solid.

I read it as an implicit indication that it's an extension that the club may not have necessarily chosen to make, but which they are contractual obligated to offer.

Yeah I think Steve Cook will read that first paragraph with raised eyebrows for sure .

I raised an eyebrow at Nourry's final sentence in the article: “Although Steve’s campaign was curtailed by his plantar fasciitis, which he continues to recover from, we are pleased to have the opportunity to work together in 2025/26.” It has a certain 'damning with faint praise' about it. And that it points out that Cook has not yet recovered from his plantar fasciitis injury, which can take a long time, is a concern.
I will wait with interest for the club's announcement on Colback as it's been suggested he is on a similar contract to Cook's.

If I recall from the time we signed them, it was reported that Cook’s 3rd year was his to take up (if he met certain appearance requirements), but Colback’s was entirely our choice. He’s almost 2 years older than Cook, so that would make sense too. I doubt we’ll extend Colback.

I’m happy he has extended but based on this season, the three of them would not provide enough cover for two spots. Hence why we ended up with the loan.
Whilst you’d hope that would improve with offseason recovery and a good pre-season, especially with Morrison, I think you could probably model it and forecast that we will more than likely need more cover, especially as age becomes more of a factor.
Steve looked like he was playing through a lot of pain when he came back and it’ll take time to recover. Who knows when JCS will recover and when he will break again.
If their salaries mean there’s limited/no cover, we’ll be back in the Paal situation again.
Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

You are kidding???
I've made a small fortune on Colback getting booked most games!
Dont know why we bother. .... but we do!

I'm not sure that there's much wrong said here, but it seems that it's what's not said. It just seems stilted, somehow.
A simple exercise was to add a few phrases like below (in brackets):
"(We are delighted to announce that) STEVE Cook is to remain with QPR after an extension clause was triggered in the defender’s contract. "(Our) Centre-half (and Captain) (Steve) ( delete Cook), 34, joined Rangers almost two years ago following highly-successful spells with both AFC Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest."
"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."
As posted several times, he had an option on his side for another year, subject to his availability this year. Same deal with Colback as I understand but no idea if he made enough appearances.
Middling news in my personal opinion - he’s a solid professional who until his injury was available and not phoning it in on the pitch, but he didn’t move his family back for £5k a week so he will be taking up a chunk of budget that I can imagine the club would rather use elsewhere.
