Why so? There’s only one humane and human response, and it should be open and loud. This was beyond horrible. Why avoid it?

Because of the reason you wrote ‘should be’ and not ‘will be’. It’ll probably be fine, but I had just brushed passed Twitter / X when I wrote that. Here’s hoping the death toll remains zero.

This. The usual suspects on Facebook had already decided the nationality and religion of the offender. When it turned out not to be what they expected, they turned to saying how desperate the media was to quickly announce it was a white English person. Given it isn't that long since false information including an incorrectly named individual as the perp was widely shared (including by some prominent people with vested interests) on social media after another incident, I'd have thought it was obvious why it was quickly announced.

Not in agreement that we shouldn’t acknowledge important happenings in the world because of bad folk, it’s for us to shine the light, they can do and will do what they want,no matter
Horrific scenes in Liverpool on 05:18 - May 27 with 2932 views | FDC | Absolutely shocking videos, hard to believe no one appears to have been killed. I know Liverpool well, my wife's family live there and were out celebrating yesterday. Surreal seeing this on a street I've walked on many times. As someone else said, the horror of it all compounded by the social media ghouls all immediately launching into their schtick. Miserable stuff. [Post edited 27 May 5:19]

Hillsborough - agreed Heysel - it’s been well documented that Liverpool fans were not the victims

Can't agree there's a lot of intelligent, caring people on this Forum who recognise a tragedy when they see one, our thoughts are with the supporters and their families today. If some Troll wants to come on here, they will be found out and hopefully hounded out. [Post edited 27 May 8:35]

I don't understand this panic argument. Sorry he shouldn't have been there and to hit 30-50 people is not an accident

Apparently there was a list of roads that would be closed and the road it happened on wasn't one of them. Simple course of action is don't get in the car though.

Funnily enough, when I saw it this morning, that was my view as well. It's easy for people to be wise after the event and ignore how they might also have reacted when faced with the twin traumas of panic and the reaction(s) of a mob imbued with trauma. There are studies on how a mob reacts in the face of an unfolding trauma/event and even if you had a gaggle of Nobel laureates, the average age of the group will descend to that of a three year old. The bigger question for me: Why was the car allowed up the street when the area was clearly not yet clear.

Horrific scenes in Liverpool on 10:31 - May 27 with 1963 views | thehat | Such tragic footage and thoughts are with everyone in Liverpool. Unfortunately using vehicles to mow down people in densely populated areas has become an increasing threat. I have noticed on rare occasions two police vehicles will park together on SAR towards the junction of Bloemfontein Road to stop any such attack in W12. However this only happens occasionally and SAR is absolutely rammed for about 15 minutes after the game. We have mentioned on several occasions this is a security weak point and should be addressed for every game.

From the footage I saw it looked like he was having a back and forth with some of the people there, and he opens his car door and says something before driving forward. Some mixture of thinking the road is or should be open, not a Liverpool fan, tried to force his way down, gets into it with those around him, then accelerates off in a mixture of fear and anger - a few seconds of madness changes his and lots of other people's lives. Probably unhelpful speculation I know, but depressing whatever the reality of it was.
Horrific scenes in Liverpool on 10:59 - May 27 with 1846 views | WirralHoop | I am not going to go into the rights and wrongs of what happened. Sitting in The Liver Building right now knowing this took place literally across the road from my desk is an awful feeling. At times like this it matters not where you are from, who you support, we come together as a football family and support each other.

I've only seen the footage once, and don't particularly want to see it again, but it looks like the 53 year old arrested was part of a mob trying to get to the driver who was in the back of a police van

Surely it was the car driver who was arrested?

Horrific scenes in Liverpool on 13:44 - May 27 with 1340 views | CLAREMAN1995 | Hope those injured pull through and make a full recovert both physical and mental. Car ramming crowds is a horrific new terror tactic see New Orleans this year or multiple times in Europe where there is no escape in most cases . Did he hit the first few people by accident then when the crowd attacked his car just gun the pedal to escape for his life or was it a deliberate attempt to kill . I cannot access the video on SKY thankfully its never anything to watch IMO
Horrific scenes in Liverpool on 13:46 - May 27 with 1333 views | numptydumpty | I try not to watch such things as these memories can become harrowing in the extreme. It's a tragic event which sadly does happen from time to time, all around the planet. For those impacted all my thoughts go out to them and their loved ones, and we all just hope and pray, possibly a little selfishly, but understandably, that wrong place, wrong time are scenarios, that we won't ever have to face such distress in our own lifetimes !!
