Swansea City Centre 13:22 - May 31 with 2537 views | Landore_Jack | What a disgrace the town centre has become. The council should hang their heads in shame. Yes, they are not responsible for online shopping but over the decades they have ruined the town centre with ridiculous vanity projects. Castle Square, Kingsway (Bendy Bus), former St Davids Shopping Centre, and the David Evans redevelopment. The town centre has become a no go zone was drug addicts everywhere. I didn't see any police. Too busy enforcing the 20 MPH speed limit (most probably).

Swansea City Centre on 14:03 - Jun 1 by SullutaCreturned | Admittedly it's been 3 years since I went in the market so if its improved again then great. I used to walk through it several times a week and there were many empty stalls and empty shops. With so many businesses going out of townor even just clsoing, it's good to hear the old place is fighting back. |
People are right to talk about the library/hub opening soon, also a newly refurbished Castle square. The hub will draw a lot of people into the centre. We need a few hundred people with well paid jobs in the Kingsway development (hopefully more when St David's is redeveloped) those people spending in the centre giving local businesses a boost. Then we need twice as many rangers actually enforcing local byelaws making the centre a place civilised people actually want to visit. And yes, the market is still brilliant.

Hi Robbie, BHS is being transformed into the new library/hub. So not a pound shop any more.

Most landmarks I know in South Wales are pubs, probably been in half of them , I guessed Swansea would have a Quaker house and seen their website, no idea about Swansea library or county hall I'm not from Swansea so only really know pubs, football, rugby, cricket ground etc

Cool, now I know. So County Hall is the place on the seafront across the road from the Swansea jack, so what is that place down towards St Helens that looked like council offices also, or is that the law courts ?

No I don't, how would I know ?, I don't know where Swansea Council offices or law courts are, I don't know where Cardiff Council offices or law courts are. Neath the local market town to the village I'm from I knew where the council and law courts were there, but I think that might have changed now.

Right perhaps I can learn something now off a local what is the Guildhall ? and what is the Brangwyn Hall ?, in my village we had a Miners Welfare Hall now gone and an Ambulance Hall that became a Town Hall.

Absolute RUBBISH. If you’ve apparently supported the club for many years you’d have a pretty good understanding of the local landmarks. I don’t even know why anyone is fuelling your attention seeking tbh!

Have to agree , I went there with a friend a few months ago . I hadn't been for years. What a let down . We walked down chip alley or Caroline street and I remembered the Albert at the end of the street . I had been in there years ago and had some good memories . We walked in I ordered the drinks turned around and sat down . The music came on and was about 90 decibels , Then a guy walked past us He had a skirt on , false boobs , lipstick and hairy forearms .... Then another one . We couldn't leave fast enough . We ended up in the Prince of wales a Wetherspoons .The streets were full of hooded Deliveroo riders on e bikes . I thought i had visited a dystopian nightmare.

I watched Swansea regularly from Division 4 upto Div 1 and back down again, I would be in the Pantygwydr for a Saturday home match at 10am and into the ground about 14.55, straight back to Neath then, 2 pints in the full moon, sometimes 1 and 1 in the Blue Bell where the Cardiff fans were to see how they got on that afternoon and have a chat, then back to Glynneath for the night, all those matches over many years and I didn't see Swansea, didn't mix much with the Mushers, down the Terminus with Mushers for the odd pint but that was about it, they were Townhill, Mayhill types, no idea about cultural Swansea apart from cockles in the market. Only been to the Liberty a couple of times due to marriage and working shifts, no point in a season ticket when you could not go half the time because of work plus I don't like sitting down as I was used to be stood up in a crowd. Night games/away games occasionally went on Aberdare supporters bus or mainly in cars/van even train [to Neath then bus] so mixing with commandos not mushers, so I know why you would think a young man would know Swansea culturally, the pubs and nightclubs in the 80s yes but that is it.

Whenever I've been to watch Cardiff play I drank a few times in the Albert, they reckoned the beer was pumped in straight from the brewery and Caroline Street had I think it was 2 chippies side by side (may have been just the one) and nothing else and their risoles were shaped like lemons with a teat on either end, I think their paper was the echo and I think it was a pink sports paper (or was that the Swansea version) working out the upto date tables in your head was a challenge after a few skull attacks,, when we used to watch Newport and would go to the Newfoundland that was a dog rough pub up there.
