If we got promoted 09:57 - Jun 4 with 4663 viewsHoopinEssex

Do you think we will ever again be able to hold our own against the best like we have done in the past?

The gap between the championship and premier league looks to be getting wider. I know Nottingham Forest have been excellent since they went back up but looking at other teams like Southampton it looks massive.

Can we ever catch up to Brentford and Fulham in the near future? Can't believe Im typing that after the grief I used to give to their fans in the 90's.

What do you think needs to change to get us moving forward?

Or like a Luton fan I know he's happier to stay in the lower leagues. Is there anyone that subscribes to that?

Funniest thread title for ages when in the real world our current rumination is ‘If we got a manager …’

We've fallen too far behind. Fulham and Brentford need at least 5 more unbroken seasons in the Prem, and we will be like the dog and duck, to their, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
QPR have always been content with being in the gutter looking up at the stars, rather than being a club that strives to win silverware/honours.
These days, if we ever get to Wembley again, it will only be through the play-offs, as holding on to our league place, whatever division we're in, will always be the priority over trying to improve what is a deplorable honours list, especially if, (coughs) you compare it to our, (laughs) rivals, Chelsea.
Chelsea are so out of our orbit now, we don't rival them in anything. Never will now, either.
And once upon a time, with a little ambition, we not only rivalled Chelsea, but looked set to eclipse them, then Jim Gregory sold up, and it's been all downhill ever since.
Queen's Park Rangers football club has almost come full circle. Before 1969, we were never on Chelsea's radar, and now on the dawn of the 2025/26 season, never will be again.

Yeah and look ohow that turned out for us last time! I'd prefer we wait until all the 'super clubs' bugger off to the Euro league and the whole playing field is more level.

Sorry to bring this up again, but even if the ESL were to get off the ground*, it has NEVER been intended to replace the PL (or any other domestic league).

Rather it was intended by its 12 founder members to replace UEFA's Champions League - basically so they could siphon off a greater share of the revenue for themselves every season, sheltered as they would be from the possibility of not qualifying.

* - Oh and btw, it won't. For if final proof were needed, Real Madrid are currently exploring options for moving from going from a totally Members-owned club to going private and selling off a stake in the club to outside investors. Considering their history, this would have seemed unthinkable even a few years ago, but they're now in such debt over the new stadium that they have to do something. Which can only mean that the (eminently preferable) alternative of the ESL must now be dead-and-buried.

Yes those clubs mentioned are probably the peak and even what they are doing, as admirable as it is, isn't that exciting.

Obv can't speak for BHA or AFCB fans, but even if Bees are at our peak, trust me, it's very exciting.

For me, the big threat to our position would be if we lost Thomas Frank. But even there, we've managed to replace a succession of decent managers with someone better i.e. Rosler - Warburton - Smith - Frank.

So I'm sure they have a plan for replacing TF, with the Press touting Keiran McKenna as the next appointee should TF move to Spurs. (Both probably only column fillers on a slow news day, tbf)

I never said the ESL was replacing the Premier league. What I meant is it would be great to get rid of the all the clubs that have huge amounts of spending power so that we could go back to having competitive leagues where any club had a small possibility of winning the league like it was befiore the dreaded Premier league came about. As far as super leagues are concerned I can still see a World super league at sjme stage due to the amount of money being pumped into all other sports by the Saudi's etc. As for your 'final proof' we'll see in time.

Not all that it’s cracked up to be

Brentford having the best spell in their history and if that's not deemed exciting (not a criticism, just an observation) then that's a sad, and probably true, indictment of the PL and where top flight football has got to.

Lots of smaller teams experience a turn in the sun but after awhile when their 'Golden Generation' leave or retire they go back into the shadows.

This is fun. Having given it a moment's consideration, I can't decide if my concerns about what might happen if we're promoted are just above or just below my concerns about what might happen if the country went to war over the island of Rockall.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Hang on, you said: "I'd prefer we wait until all the 'super clubs' bugger off to the Euro league and the whole playing field is more level."

But even if the ESL did get off the ground, the English 'super clubs' would still be playing in the PL as well. (Ditto the continental 'super clubs' in their respective domestic leagues).

Meaning they wouldn't be buggering off anywhere.

So that if the ESL were to be a success, then the founder clubs would be creaming off even MORE money with which to dominate their domestic leagues back home.

But if that prospect might alarm you, don't worry, the ESL ain't gonna happen, due to a combination of overwhelming fan hostility, and UEFA "heading it off at the pass" with their revamped Champions League.

I have no doubt that if you were to ask Bees fans, Switching Code's view would be in the minority. A very small minority.

It's what happens when we win the European Cup that I'm worried about.

I'm very possibly older than you, SC, as are most of the Bees fans I know. And I've been to Chesterfield etc in the past as well.

But when you consider how many of the (older) Griffin Park crowd have swiched seamlessly to the GTech, including ST Holders; also how many of the old crowd renew their ST's each season (90%+); or have your pre-match drink in the Griffin/Guardsman/New Inn, you'll see that we old geezers are still going, still happy.
