Wilcox was recruited to deliver the Man City lite strategy and if he was still here we'd be doubling down on it. You seem to forget that it was Wilcox who recruited RM. He will have known exactly what he was getting - a Pep wannabe. If Wilcox was still here then RM would probably still be here too. Sacking him would have meant that Wilcox had to admit he'd made a mistake in the biggest decision he had to make at Saints. We needed to move on from Man City lite, which we have done. We haven't found the way forward yet but at least we've made a start.

Wilcox seems to be adaptable which is something Martin wasn't, he would have seen that Martin wasn't working and couldnt adapt, he might have replaced him with another Man City lite alternative, but he would not have let Martin run his won agenda Perhaps we would still have got relegated, but I think Wilcox would have counselled Martin about the tactics and we would have got a few more points than we did in the end.

Good point. Apart getting a top job at a Top Club what has Jason Wilcox achieved since he left City. Absolutely nothing.

I genuinely dont get your love in with Wilcox. He made a few good loan signings here, but he his permanent signings were awful. Look at this woeful list he gave us. DF England Derrick Abu England Chelsea Free transfer GK England Josh McNamara England Manchester City Undisclosed DF Republic of Ireland Ryan Manning Wales Swansea City Free MF Northern Ireland Shea Charles England Manchester City £11mill GK England Joe Lumley England Middlesbrough Free DF England Zach Awe England Arsenal Free FW Scotland Ross Stewart England Sunderland £10mill MF Republic of Ireland Joe O'Brien-Whitmarsh Cork City Undisclosed

This puzzles me as well. It's not as though they have suddenly transformed. If anything the shitshow seems to have got worse since his arrival. Not suggesting it's all down to him but I'd be interested to hear what his contribution has been. He still strikes me as another one who talks a very good game but achieves very little.

I give Wilcox the credit he deserves, what I genuinely don't get is the hatred for certain players and personnel connected to SFC and determination to slag them off at every opportunity. Jason Wilcox was at this football club for barely a year, in that time he oversaw a successful promotion campaign, he brought some stability to the club after a dreadful time before he arrived. Maybe it wasn't a great contribution in the grand scheme of things, but i would take that list of permanent signings which cost only £21 million and to be honest Charles played a part in our promotion season and is worth more now, Stewart could play a big part in the coming season and Manning for all the sneering at him played a part in the promotion season and battled hard this. Yes I would take that for that day out at Wembley and promotion. But lets not give credit, lets just slag him off. The free transfers, Manning aside were cheap punts for kids, its always been the Southampton way, for all the Steve Williams and Steve Morans etc there have been a dozen players who never made it.

Hatred? Really? Personally, I thought Wilcox’s finest achievement was stringing Liverpool along before selling Lavia to Chelsea for a full upfront cash payment.

You keep saying hatred Nick . I dont see much hatred..maybe a little industrial language at times but not hatred. You posted about Wilcox and in general people have just questioned what he's achieved at at Utd or with us. Yes we got promoted and we had a glorious unforgettable day at Wembley...but we also managed to finish 4th in what was a 3 horse race in the Championship. Followed up by a season where we got 12 points ffs...fans are disgruntled.

Maybe hatred is a strong word, but not just Wilcox a lot of players as well, it's not constructive criticism and there is plenty of selective memory.

Maybe I have a selective memory, but I seem to recall a steady stream of articles on this message board in our promotion season about Jack Stephens. Not many of which seemed to particularly resemble constructive criticism. And arguably a lot more targeted than stuff which has been mooted as being said about Baxunu, Manning etc. In truth, I agreed with a lot of what you were saying last season, Nick. Brent WAS making a point of including him in the team at all costs. You would often at the time say “this isn’t personal against Jack Stephens.” But it was no less personal than other fans’ critiques of Bazunu.

Spot on Pat - Nick has always had players he disliked. Exhibit 1 Dan Harding. This year he hasnt had a good word to say about Tall Paul who has at least managed to score a few. As for Wilcox im pretty sure when he was signing Stewart and Charles he didnt have the 25/26 season in mind, when they might finally get into the team. [Post edited 5 Jun 23:09]

Where am i slagging him off? Im just pointing out that he spent Southamptons money poorly. Spending +20Imill in the championship you would expect to get a lot of bang for your buck. Buying a forward that has was badly injured was just plain stupid. Wilcox was with saints for 9months, some of that was on gardening leave before he left. You can bet he was tapped up by Man U in Jan so im not sure you can give him that much credit. Do you really think he could implement much change in the football operation in such a short time? He did a decent job in the loan market. What is it that he did that deserves credit?

I am not sure what positive impact Wilcox had at Saints and he didn’t hang around long enough to do any sort of a good job I equally don’t see what positive impact he has had at United yet either Average footballer still making a living at being average it seems to me

I have criticised Jack Stephens , but I have never just thrown abuse at him, I have never just called him utter sh*t or demanded he get out of our club. I have pointed out why I feel he should not be in the team, I illustrated my points with examples, perhaps it was not positive criticism as it was not exactly saying he was a good player, but it was constructive as I usually pointed out that he has been a good squad member. So you are right when you say that i was never personal about Jack Stephens, he is a professional footballer I am merely commenting on his performances for Southampton FC. But I am respectful, I don't just rubbish him and that is perhaps my point,
