Was that the one when we went top of the league. I was there, went up on a football special train if I remember correctly.

We went top a few times that season. I can't remember if that was one.

Yep, a Gary Stanley winner for a 3-2 away win at Ipswich - to go top in November 1981.

We also went top when we won away at Stoke 2-1 ...

Everyday above ground ... Is a good day! 😎

I was at Ipswich. Curt from memory scored Bobby Robson was the manager for Ipswich. Swinging cats day 😂

This was one guy’s take on it :

We are in a different league again now, a league where Greaves excelled and was one of the players of the season with a string of clubs chasing him. Burgess on the other hand was very in and out in the Championship, to be honest he was often dropped for a reason, yes he has good games but at times defensively a bit of a liability, its ok being left footed but it helps if you can do something with it.

Oooooh,the bitterness and pain.

Thing is when you call a city a dump, without a pot to piss in and tin pot plus other abuse what do they expect ? There was nothing from Swansea fans but admiration and delight at his signing. No response until their pathetic noise started. Well, let’s look forward to the fixtures in ten days time. See if their entitlement stretches beyond their anonymous and ridiclious online insults. You make your bed whether you’re able to sleep in it or not. Those insults were always going to get a response.

Apparently now we started it on here. Thick heads, their lies are incredible. It was all one way from that site and others until we stepped in. Deal with it.

Think that you are being a bit harsh. As they've had 2 promotions and played in the Premier League last year they are bound to attract idiots, every club has them. Their derby is a county derby and I'm sure that Norfolk and Suffolk hate each other as much as in any other derby.

Cameron Burgess had his contract extended by an option last season, he's 29 and would have been looking for a 3 year contract and regular football. I don't believe that he was going to get that at Ipswich and he obviously liked the project and money that we had on offer.

Unlike Darling and us, he hasn't left Ipswich on a free due to incompetence on their part.

Having grown up in Lowestoft (Suffolk) & lived either there or in Norwich all my life, I can say it isn't just a Norfolk v Suffolk thing, because in places such as Lowestoft, Diss etc along the border of the 2 counties, there are plenty of people who support the closest geographical team, rather than the one in the same county. Lowestoft back in day had a very large contingent of Ipswich & Norwich supporters. Wasn't usually a visceral hatred though, more of a "winding up folks in the pub" level.

What possibly took the edge off it was that there were so many people from the Lowestoft area who, in the 70s & 80s, went to both Carrow Road & Portman Road on alternate weekends, that it diluted a lot of the aggro. Also had a huge knock-on impact on Lowestoft Town FC attendances as well.

It was a brilliant team Ipswich had though in the late 70s, when one of my uncles used to occasionally take me to see Paul Cooper, Arnold Mühren, Frans Thijssen & Co.

Anyway - sorry to bore you all senseless, but felt obliged to give my "Half penneth".

I seem to recall that we were top of the league after 10 games, 20 games & 30 games (not continuously) during that season. 42 games in a season in those days. We finished 6th.

I think that’s the forgotten part by outsiders - they fl focus on three promotions in 4 seasons but the impact we made in the top flight in our first season was incredible. Some said that if we’d kept Stewart in goal instead of Dai Davies we might have even won the league

I loved Dave Stewart, harshly treated looking back.

Most people thought it was incredibly harsh at the time. No-one could ever convince me that his replacement was an improvement & that’s being more than respectful

Not a popular opinion, but I thought Dai was a much better keeper.

The thicko side of their following can’t even work out it was them that called Swansea tin pot. Suppose we had better go collecting at some point 😂 And now they use the bully’s best tactic single me out for abuse and say everyone else is ok. Heard it all before, and dealt with it, like swatting flys. Little relegated, entitled, straw eating flys 😂

Keep it coming lady’s, every contact leaves a trace.

It’s not popular for a very good reason. He wasn’t!
