Not quite sure who Sam Bird is!
This one has been bubbling away for a few days since BBC local radio first mentioned it.

As we all know, RAFC only report DONE deals, and are not interested in rumours. however, this 'leak' could well trigger other interest in the striker, further muddying the water: if in fact we are interested.
the phrase 'stalking horse' comes to mind.

This was before they appointed Simon Grayson as their new manager as well.
No doubt he’ll be doing his best to persuade the player to stay.

Stories invented and spread by a players agent trying to get a fee for a signing?

*sarcastic voice* "That's never happened before".

This would be a good signing.
A 6 foot 5 inch forward that would give defenders plenty to deal with. He's a proven performer at National League level.

The only problem with someone of his height would be...his height. remember peter Crouch? how many goals did he get chalked off because he outmuscled defenders but adjudged to have fouled them. it would be interesting to see his stats regarding disallowed goals.

Thing is that someone like that needs marking.... he would occupy defenders and make gaps and opportunities for other players... and be handy if we were under pressure defending corners....and if he or someone like him can hold the ball up and let us get up the pitch more easily, it makes appoach play easier too.

From twitter:

Simon Grayson has conducted meetings with Emmanuel Dieseruvwe in an effort to persuade the striker to remain at the club. While his future remains uncertain, Hartlepool United remain hopeful of reaching an agreement.

One to watch.

Roland Bergkamp on loan in 2011 and Kangana Lord on loan in 2004. Both 6 ft 5 ins. They played 5 games and 1 game respectively. No goals between them.
I think I am being kind when I say neither impressed.
I'm sure Kangana was substituted pretty early on in his one game and sent back to his parent club. His Wikipedia states he played for 13 clubs and for 12 of them the most he played was 4 games. Oldham was one of the other teams.
In total during his career he played 28 games and scored once.
Fair to say he may qualify as the worst player ever for Rochdale though I stand to be corrected.

Was there not a goal keeper (94/5 season) called Dickens? seemed afraid of the ball - hated to catch it or even go near it, bit of a problem for a keeper.

I remember at school in the 1980's some teacher tried to get us to play cricket - we all made no attempt to catch the ball after John went to catch a skier, he didn't and it went through his hands and broke his nose.

I once went to Pompey on a Friday to Join HMS Sandown, they told me tom come back on the Monday. So I went to the Rose bowl, in Southampton to watch Hampshire. All going well until someone hit the ball into the crowd for six . The memory of John returned and I left (the ground not the Navy).

I think I'm over sharing.

5 appearances in the league and the AWS; 15 goals conceded.

If you don't know why your posts keep getting downvoted, there's no hope for you.

Paddy M should have let his mate Peter Kay stand in for him; at least he would hav blocked half the goal off.
