Selles hasn't done too badly for himself 20:09 - Jun 18 with 1052 viewsSouthamptonfan

Selles has been appointed as Sheffield United's new boss, to fight against us for promotion next season. He must have something about him to be given this opportunity.

I have had a day to get my head round this news.

It still totally baffles me.

Genuinely staggering.

Perhaps these managers that were so poor for us are only poor at SFC? Terrible players, terrible owners, toxic environment, lack of ambition perhaps? It will be very interesting to see how Selles does at Sheffield United and how Juric does at Atalanta. Nathan Jones has already been promoted with Charlton, so most of these managers are only terrible at Saints - just the one club.

I remember being up the the Silverlake when Eastleigh scored the last min winner against Selle's Reading to knock them out of the FA cup .

They were heading towards L2 , lunatic owner , a 6 point deduction and I assumed he'd be gone the next day.

He did a fantastic job in turning it around there and went to Hull and kept them up, who also have a fruitcake owner.

He deserves this chance. He's going to be up against it as this won't go down well with the Sheff Utd fan base I'd assume.

Spot on Southamptonfan.

But then again what do we expect when our primary owner admits to sacking Martin because of errors made by V A R ?

It’s now the Southampton way, don’t you know.

When Selles arrived at Saints it was a smart move, a young and up and coming coach being groomed to take over from Ralph Hasenhuttl potentially after two years as his assistant.

When he was appointed as caretaker manager he wasn't ready for it, to make it even harder he had no one around him with experience.

That didn't make him a bad manager, it just made him one in a bad position.

When assistants become caretakers, it often spells the end for them at the club if they don't get the job, the incoming manager will want his own people and he won't want someone who has already done the job for a few months sitting there like the sword of Damocles.

Since then Selles has got on with the job of learning his trade in England and building a reputation as a good manager.

Yep, the sort of young manager we needed to get us out of The Championship as Sheffield Utd obviously realised.

Experienced in English football with Championship knowledge in particular.

Not difficult to understand except to Sports Republic of course.
