Friday choons - great Glastonbury performances 08:57 - Jun 27 with 1532 viewsFDC

I was there for this, felt like seeing a band on the crest of a wave

(With apologies to Brian!)

Funnily enough I was just saying last night that KOL 2008 headline set was one of the most boring things I'd ever seen haha. Different strokes for different folks

One of the all time great Glastonbury days. We were at Paul Simon and it was terrible. Field was packed with chairs and picnic blankets, the man himself had a bad throat. The next thing we wanted to see was TVOTR in like 3 hours. I pointed to the back of the Pyramid field and said "Has anyone ever been that way?". So we went the long way round to the Other Stage, saw some trapeezee, lads on segways pretending to be grannies riding trollies. A rum bar? Bought jelly shots off some travellers. Made it to TV On The Radio and they tore the god damn house down

Think this was the exact moment I thought "These guys might be my favourite band of all time"

Ha fair play. To qualify, they're not my usual tipple and they almost immediately released Sex Is On Fire afterwards and disappeared into mediocrity imo. But the year before 2008 my friends were all really into the previous album, so was a good headliner for us.

We pretty much always camped by the John Peel. Groove Armada have done some great performances over the years, I'm pretty sure this was on the John Peel stage

I remember everyone was mad about Neil headlining in 2009. The more things change, the more they stay the same I guess.

He blew the place apart

I was watching Matt interviewed on The Daily Show* last night - was from about a week ago. He was talking about his solo album that just came out - described his recent struggles with depression and identity. So many midlife issues many on here could understand, and he was genuinely so humble about himself. Found it quite touching to be honest.

(*The Daily Show is something I watched for years but there are nights when it just makes me feel old these days - the Jon Stewart stuff is still good - some epic rants recently.)

Anyway for performances I'll suggest Radiohead in '97, although I wasn't there.

Blur’s headline slot in 2009, even though I wasn’t the world’s biggest Blur fan, was one of the best live performances I’ve ever seen (different league to Oasis at Wembley.

Kasabian (in their pomp) followed by The Boss on the Saturday night was pretty amazing.

Hot Chip did a great headline slot on the West Holts in 2015.

Foals were pretty electric on the Other Stage back in 2013 (?)

Really enjoyed The Lumineers on the Other Stage in 2016.

Lionel Richie was the ultimate Legends slot act, I’ve seen. Crowd was so into.

So many other great moments. Been 5 times, but not since 2016. Harder to get tickets nowadays, plus marriage and children…

I saw these lads at Glasto 1986. There was a lightning storm in the distance that added to the magic of this moment. Brilliant.

2008 Levellers played at the Leftfield on the Thursday night. Hammering down with rain, took us ages to find the stage so only got the second half, the whole campsite was there since it was the only thing on that night, bloody brilliant gig.

We had something similar with Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer (great fun) one year and Wolf Alice another. The only live acts seemingly on in a small tent somewhere. Wolf Alice were very trendy at the time, not even sure they’d released their first album yet, just an EP. Some band supported them and were utter garbage - a bad grunge band. Wolf Alice were thankfully much better.

I was there for this. They were superb, a band at the height of their powers, a real moment of triumph for them

I've had the CD this is on for years and it's a cracker:

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Poor old Bernard succumbed to the demon Pernod and fell over
Oh how we would have laughed if we weren't such serious young men 😂

I went for a few years on the trot, and this is the memory I keep coming back to.
I never really got Bowie, despite my mates keeping tellimg me I was wrong. Then I saw him at Glastonbury. Hands up, I had been an idiot all that time. He was immense.

OMG, this is what happens if you throw six or seven genres in a blender and switch it on .
