At your first Col U game take something to scrape off Ipswich Town stickers from our seats and any other mischief that we are likely to suffer.

It might be useful revenue for the borough council that own the stadium, and potentially some relief for Colchester United (e.g Robbie Cowlings pockets) if we save some money from our annual commitment, but it is sickening that things have come to this. How long before the Ipswich brand becomes dominant?

Also begs the question, how soon before the pitch is again a disgrace.

All the more reason to stay at home for both events. I'm sure if there are maintenance issues following the pre-season friendly the club will be discussing costs with ITFC. It's honestly not a big deal for me, I'm sure the new pitch will cope, and the revenue will help. If anyone thinks this will 'dilute our brand' get along to Tranmere on Aug 2nd and be reassured - I'll be there.

With respect Wessex, your distant home location insulates you from Ipswich gloating in pubs, schools and frankly everywhere in Colchester. Thankfully, their relegation from the Premier League might shut a few of them up. One sees three Ipswich shirts for every Colchester United in the High Street.

I came to Colchester 23 years ago and have missed few U’s matches. I am indigenously a Villa fan, but have always supported my local team, be that Bristol City, Millwall and latterly Colchester United. I simply don’t get why folk don’t support their local community team, be this soccer, cricket or community projects.

The Cowley brothers were building fantastic momentum, but I feel hosting Ipswich, Ipswich U21 and Ipswich Women is an open invitation to kill that. I hope I am wrong, but being the second class citizens in our own stadium is hard to swallow.

I can't see how having any Ipswich teams use our facilities is going to have any bearing on the progress of our first team. I feel like we're more likely to benefit from an improved playing surface and the additional revenue. The number of Ipswich shirts in and around Colchester frustrates me also and when I get off the train at North Station and see a load of them flooding on on their way to Portman Road but it's been like that for years and is never likely to change. Surely it would be worse if we were paying them and travelling 20 plus miles to play in a stadium that isn't ours? I actually find it quite amusing that they're going to have to play in a stadium which has Col U all over it. It's a shame that their colours are also blue and white really.

Was told that the Tractors paid 250k to upgrade the pitch . Guess they want something back for their money.
See many Tractor tops around, will be interesting to see how many of the new Tractor kit will surface on my local travels.

This morning I looked on the CUFC website for away tickets for Oldham and it was still advertising tickets for last season’s games at Salford and Doncaster. I’m not surprised as Chris has left and the club has gone to the dogs.

Tonight I see that there are no mention of any U’s games but, we are advertising the Farmers v Charlton, as an away game. Yes, advertising the Farmers on our website. Why not run coaches to Poorman Road next season, just to help our fanbase shrivel a bit quicker?

There is no Sheeran concert on that night, he’s playing this weekend. I didn’t think you were allowed to play friendlies against teams in the same division? Is that why they are playing at ours, is it some kind of fiddle?

Obviously, next season the Binners Bints and the U21’s will all be advertised at the Community Stadium and on the CUFC website. There has always been contempt for, and a complete lack of understanding of, the Col U fanbase, but this takes it to a new level.

It is humiliating. We are now reduced to being the Binners bitches, to be used and abused at will. We cannot even look after some grass without handouts.

Bollox to 'all income is welcome', it is the football equivalent of selling our arse down at the docks.

New ground, the Farmers in League 1, fastest growing town in UK, we had it all in our hands, only to be thrown away by incompetence.

I'm just grateful that he's not playing in Colchester, as I'd rather gouge my eardrums out with a rusty spoon, than listen to the squeaky g#ng@r pr#ck.

Tickets for Oldham haven’t been made available by the Latics yet, very few away tickets across League 2 are right now. That being said, Shrewsbury away tickets went on sale first thing this morning. 100% agree that Chris was a legend, but it’s a bit of a stretch to say we’ve gone to the dogs since he left.

I don’t get the pearl clutching about us being the farmer’s bitch either. They need our support, we’re making them pay for it. Sounds like we’re the one in control of the situation. If the £250k figure for their contribution to the new pitch is correct, that’s a stonking amount - easily the price of a half-decent League 2 footballer. Throw in another £30k gate receipts for their friendly against Charlton and it all starts to add up.

I’m sure we can all agree on Ed Sheeran though

I'd no idea till I just checked that the city of Colchester has a bigger population than the town of Ipswich, according to Wiki. I can understand your frustration at the off field failings.

It is particularly disappointing because on the pitch things are the brightest since Phil Parkinson was your manager. Last season The U's average home attendance was the highest for fifteen years. If the brothers can lead the team to a serious promotion challenge this season it must be possible you'll break the 6,000 average figure for the first time since 1969. The Cowleys effect on the crowds at Lincoln was astonishing. They more than trebled the average attendance at Sincil Bank within three years.

Obviously Lincoln doesn't have a "big club" anywhere near so their situation is a little different. But Colchester United could be entering a golden era providing it isn't scuppered by circumstances beyond the control of Danny and Nicky. I've been pleasantly surprised by the transfer business so far this window so there's reason for optimism.

You are correct in that the Oldham tickets are not on sale yet.

My points are, firstly, many clubs across the EFL don’t have tickets for sale yet and their website simply states that.

Yesterday morning, our website was still advertising tickets for games that happened last April. That is very amateurish, it is not something that should happen, in never used to happen, in my opinion, it’s yet another sign (on a very long list) that the club has gone to the dogs. I accept that for others, the way the pitch was allowed to deteriorate, seats missing, the way BWA have been funding stadium maintenance etc. etc. are not a problem. For me they are an issue.

My second point, I went on the Col U site to look at availability of tickets to see Col U and all I saw were tickets for the Farmers. If you went into Sainsburys, you don’t see adverts for Tescos as soon as you walk in the door, do you?

You and I may be too long in the tooth to be swayed into depravity, but others aren’t. Plain and simple, it is shocking business sense to advertise a close rival.

Thirdly, this is clearly a divisive issue. Some are happy with money from wherever and at whatever long-term cost, others like myself, Noah, Thrillo, have a line and this is way beyond the line.

Less than 20 years ago we finished above the Farmers (and Naarich) and were about to move to a shiny new stadium. Now look at us, it is pathetic and it is embarrassing..

The way the club was going, without DC/NC we would probably be non-league by now.

I just hope they can work miracles and put the club in the shop window before it is too late, because off the pitch, and away from the fans, we are in a nosedive.

Yes the signings look like more fantastic business, but if we lose Edwards, Tovide and Taylor, it doesn't look so good, but there's a long way to go yet.

PS the population comparison is not so simple, because 'Colchester' in terms of boundaries, covers a lot of villages outside of the main conurbation, like Dedham and Mersea, but nowadays, there are no reasons why we need to live in the shadow of any of our neighbours.

Also, you cannot compare attendances pre 2006, because Layer Road was heavily restricted in the latter years. After Parky left, under George in the Championship, we would have managed some crowds well over 10,000 if there had been room for them.

I’ve just done some research on this. The two times the Farmeresses have played at Poorman Road, the gates have been over 10,000!!!!! ….and that was against minnows. I was thinking they get about 150 crowd at tops, plus a dog at weekends.

Next season they will play Sunderland and Newcastle, amongst other decent sized clubs. I don’t expect they will get anywhere near 10,000, but if things don’t go well for the U’s, we could soon become the sideshow in our own home. God help us if they get promoted to the WSL.

Week in, week out, this will be advertised to the people of Colchester. Locally, some young girls will be pestering mum and dad to take them. Some will like what they see and the kids, mum and dad will become supporters of all things Binners.

Meanwhile our women play at the Garrison, complete with rusty bucket and sponge.

PS On a separate note, I am always amazed how people are so naive or daft enough to fall for the numerous scams going around. Then I hear people saying “I trust Robbie to do what’s best for the club” and it all makes sense.

It’s inevitably good for the local profile of women’s football, and I know our female players feel that, but like you I fear it is a potential disaster for the recruitment of future generations of U’s fans. Ipswich will soon make us second class citizens in our own stadium with their women’s XI probably attracting bigger gates than our men if they reach the WPL.

I’m pleased to see that the advert for the Binners (complete with their ‘my little pony’ badge) has been removed from the ‘Away games on Sale’ section of our website. It’s been replaced by an article about Makise Evans WTF?

Meanwhile Oxford’s website has been advertising tickets (for home fans) for their ‘cup final’ against the mighty U’s for a week now. They are on sale at midday today.

So far sweet FA on our site, but we live in hope. I’m guessing that Chris’s replacement has to clean the shitters, peel spuds, mark the white lines and sweep the car park amongst other things, so I’ll cut him/her some slack.

I love footy in August, the hope, the sunshine, immaculate green grass. Less than three weeks to go!!!

I’m not actually sure the ticket office people are responsible for the website, think the website people are responsible for the website. Why wouldn’t Oxford promote upcoming fixtures at the Kassam, just as we do for the JobServe, it would be stupid not too. When our tickets become available for the feverishly anticipated visit to a three-sided ground, I’m sure they’ll be signposted through all of our social media channels - I’ll be going btw.

For those glory hunting (haha) 'Binners' with CO postcodes, it will be an evening of enlightenment, to find out that there is a football club right on their doorstep, and one that has actually won a game this year, (and people go home happy)!

Although, it might be a shock for them to find out that supporting Col U makes you a better, more interesting, attractive person and hence we don't need a red-light district adjacent to our ground.

It is remarkable, considering we're both generally third/ fourth tier clubs, how we've managed to avoid being in the same league as Oxford for so long. I went to the Manor Ground for a midweek league match in 1999, which we drew 1-1. Only just realised that was our second from last trip there, and since then not once to the Kassam.
