I understand your comments. It's another risk and is another wad of cash spent on "potential". He scored 10 goals in the German second division, which probably isn't as strong as the championship. He does look tall, athletic and strong. But so was Mara! [Post edited 4 Jul 18:58]

After two relegations in three years, record defeats last season and about 200 million wasted on 6 managers and 20 or so young players (with potential), I can't imagine why I would be negative and doubt the next 20 year old with potential coming into the club. [Post edited 4 Jul 19:48]

Try looking on the bright side for once you might feel better. None of us know what these players are really like, none of us knew much about Mane or Tadic did we ? . Some work out some don’t . One thing I do know is at the moment we’re not going to attract superstar strikers to come to Southampton FC . we have to find a nugget like Mane relatively cheap who scores loads and Will eventually be sold on . At the moment we’re shopping around the 10 million max mark that’s what we have become, we all need to get used to it.

He might be good , but more likely a poor punt. Not a great record. For once it would be great just to buy some one proven at this level to get us out of the league, rather than yet another one for the future. Give me a danny wellbeck any day

Tadic came from Ajax and Mane came from Salzburg having scored 32 goals in 60 appearances from midfield. Two big clubs playing in the champions league at the time. They were exciting signings. The point is, we did know they were likely to be good because they played and scored goals for top clubs in top leagues. That's the point, we knew they were good. This new lad might be good, but I'm pretty sure he would be in the PL right now, if he was that good. He's just another punt on developing a young player into something better. Over the last few years, would you not agree that the recruitment has been terrible? And what went wrong? Many would say that we spent a lot of money on unproven, inexperienced players, that we hoped might get good and that was the issue. It was done to make a profit as young players have a sell on value. So after all of that, we buy a very young defender and very young forward both having never played in the championship. All very well being positive, but some might also worry that the same mistakes are being made again. Believe me, when we employed Ronald Koeman as manager and bought Van Djike, Mane, Pelle, Tadic from top tier clubs, I was very positive! I Hopefully your positivity is right and he's a fantastic player. But, recent history of buying young, inexperienced players hasn't worked, so I'm not sure what your positivity is based on other than pure hope that 3 years of failure suddenly changes. Take a breath. Hopefully we’ve turned a corner, in 5 years the thought of noddy clubs like Brentford and Bournemouth lording it over us will be a distant memory.

Yes you’re right our recruitment has been bloody awful the last couple of years Solak has admitted saints have made loads of mistakes. Sulemana and Tall Paul classic examples but Solak iis trying to put things right. Getting Spors in and Getting Trollope in for starters . Many clubs go through transitional periods . I can remember when saints were one of the best teams in the country early eighties we just missed out winning the old first division by 3 points . I remember the dark days of Branfoot. You have to take the rough with the smooth. These players we would all like that you say are proven what makes you think they’ll want to come to Saints ant the moment and what makes you think we can afford them ? A good promising proven striker would cost millions ffs . For whatever reason mainly financial rules we aren’t allowed to spend big at the moment and as I’ve said time and again, you only need good Championship players to get out of the championship. We have Good championship players ! Im not sure how much research you do on players . I’m not one of these types that thinks when we sign a player “oh he’s shit, never heard of him , we can do better than that “ I look deeper into it. Ronnie Edwards for example, I’ve just been on the QPR board and they are desperate to get him back at all costs . He was also in the England U 21 squad for their recent success. This fills me with excitement and hope for the coming season . Shea Charles player of the season at Wednesday is another one. Do you remember Mark Wright? I remember when we signed him from Oxford people were saying “who the hell is he? We can do better than that. “ Mark Wright turned out to be the classiest centre back I’ve ever seen in a saints shirt along with Van Dijk. My point is don’t slag people off before they’ve had a chance to prove themselves. Chill out , sit back and see what the squad is like end of August.

Thank you for your response. Ronnie Edwards and Bree (cost 850k) for the championship at least, are two of our better signings. Why are are they better? I would say its because they both have championship experience and they were cheaper than the 25 million we spent on Sulemana, 18 million on tall Paul, 14 million on Bazunu, 12 million on Mara, 8 million on Edozie, 7 million on Larios and there's many more examples of the money we have wasted on "potential". Whilst I appreciate that there is time until August, my concern is that we are doing the same thing again - spending a lot of money on inexperienced, young players. Spors, Wilcox or whoever, we are still doing the same thing that has failed over the last few years. We are trying to be clever, thinking that we can find a young gem cheaply, as if we can outdo the very top clubs, because clearly Man city, Liverpool, Arsenal just haven't spotted this superstar. I remember when Piroe was available from Swansea, and he was cheaper than Sulemana, cheaper than tall Paul! He had already scored 18 goals for Swansea in the Championship. But he was too old I assume. IMO, just buy a player that has scored 15 plus goals in the league that we are in, or even a player like Lambert, who scored nearly 30 goals in league one and be done with it. What we do now is find players from across the globe, that have never lived in England, never played in our leagues and barely managed 10 goals in the second division of their country. And we hope they will cope and get good. Why not bring players that we know can cope in the English leagues, a Lambert, a Piroe or Norwich have a striker who scored 18 goals in the championship last season called Borja Sainz. He's 24, can score goals in this league and knows what a cold Tuesday night in Stoke is all about. But he isnt 20, he's too old so they won't buy him and would rather spend 50 million I suspect, on 6 young players. But there we are that's what I think. I just want Saints to do well and win games. It's been three years of the same mistakes over amd over again. I hope I am wrong, and would be very happy to be wrong. I have my season ticket, I will get behind the Will Still and the club. But I will moan if it goes wrong yet again, and will hopefully if I am wrong and Downs is the next Alan Shearer, I.will come on here and say I was wrong and how happy I am he's scoring loads of goals. Damion Downs agreed !!!! on 19:56 - Jul 6 with 1283 views | Flamingbankers | Yikes! I saw his YouTube reel of 'Skills and Goals' and had to stop before it finished because the 5 yards passes and tap ins were getting so monotonous and disappointing, to say the least. I don't think I've seen such a poor YouTube reel supposedly promoting a player! I hate to think what he's actually like on the pitch for a full 90. I could be totally deceived of course. Something to do with AI or simply general bullcrap. As an upside (down) we'll know whether Spors is useless or not if Downs actually plays for us without being carted away to Goztepe. Flynn Downs as well - Let's hope we're not building a team of downers! LOL [Post edited 6 Jul 20:06]

Damion Downs agreed !!!! on 20:24 - Jul 6 with 1246 views | Saintcole7 | We do actually have a proven goal scorer in the championship still on the books I in Adam Armstrong, after last season I think it's hard to have any positivity but maybe we should try and let's see how Will does with the players which remain and come in? If we're as bad as many seem to think we will be come October then we can be pessimistic but let's have some hope for now?
Damion Downs agreed !!!! on 20:05 - Jul 7 with 517 views | MattFinish | I’m hoping Downs will be the real deal I hope Ross Stewart will stay fit and I’d see him as our main striker with Downs being a support act to start with I don’t think anyone should be criticised for being cautious. Our recent form on buying strikers has been appalling
