I dont mind being called out on this so please feel free...was Sam Waller really as good as a lot of people are suggesting? I'm not saying he was a bad keeper but we've had plenty better. He was a young inexperienced keeper who still had plenty to learn and i thought his positional play and wandering too far from his goal was a problem and i don't go along with the theory that his kicking was great neither. He was a good shot stoppers though unlike Slicker. It will be interesting to see Wallers progression and i think he will do OK but for me I'd rather have a experienced keeper in the net.

Quite agree

I think we need an experienced big physical presence in that position..not sure the lad from City will cope with the physicality of this league for some time

Difficult one in so far as if we are not going to sign an older keeper who has probably had a mediocre career at EFL level, we are left in our current situation of getting younger, less experienced but one assumes more promising keepers on loan and hope it works.
Whatmuff looks a biggish lad ,so will have to see how it goes. I am old enough to remember the" Keith Welch" era of a young keeper being big enough to be a success

Hey, you don’t have to be old to remember the Keith Welch era….

More like the Raquel Welch era in some cases…

I heard Halifax were talking to Kairo but the money wasn’t right.
Not sure that the Shaymen have a lot of cash; they played Kurt Willoughby as a trialist in a friendly at Bradford PA last week but he’s subsequently signed for Kidderminster apparently.
They’ve since signed a striker from Kings Lynn and another from Avro.

Pete O’Rourke is now saying on X that Kairo is set to sign for Forest Green.

IF HE DOESN'T...WOULD HE BE WELCOMED BACK HERE, WITH LESS PRESSURE ON HIS SHOULDERS?

Yes I remember Mike Pooles first season too. I wake up sweating in the middle of the night, it was 1973-4 season.

I thought he was superb when faced with any 1 v 1 chances for the opposition - I can't actually remember any forward actually scoring one against him. Yes as you say we've had better but we've also definitely had worse and I think had he been around for the Semi Final and the Play off game we'd have been going to Wembley and Forest Green.

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

You might be right, Slicker was like a cat on a hot tin roof, very indecisive. I'm hoping we'll sign a permanent keeper before the start of the season. In the end the decision to go down the loan keeper route proved to be very costly for the club last season.
