Dembele 06:43 - Jul 28 with 1014 viewssilky

Got high hopes for him this season. Defensively suspect (which he really needs to work on) but he's still the one I'm most excited about.

The fact he played such fewer games than Paul Symth (not hating on Paul at all) but had a better goal and assist ratio speaks volumes.

He's had a real good pre season and looks set to hit the ground running.

Just don't get injured! 😬

Poll: Do you think this current QPR team has got what is takes to go up this year?

Stephan seems to like Dembele having started him in each friendly so far. And Dembele has replied with 4 goals - impressive goals at that.

It's clear the lad is talented but, as you say, he must improve his work without the ball. Poku has the wide left berth and Stephan wants Chair in the middle so it's likely Dembele would play wide left as he did last Saturday. If we continue with the current two LBs, this will be a problem if Dembele doesn't copy what Smyth does in helping out his fullback.

Defensively he could learn from Ilias, who uses his low centre of gravity to remain firm, so can be strong in defence.

Offensively, he can see a pass, and anticipates what the opposition do, but so far his shooting is truly top class.

Has scored some fantastic hits in pre season. Hopefully his injury woes are behind him.

Has the potential to be massive player for us this season but not a given.

Hope he has a great season.

finding a place for him in the team is tricky, he did Ok on the left at the weekend. He has a real end product so want him in the team but I don't think you can play him, Chair and Poku in the same side and not get carved open. Chair defensivley has got a lot worse the last few seasons

I would play him behind Frey/Barrell with the others like so:

Poku (RW)
Dembele (AMC)
Chair (LW)

Then the three of them can rotate to cause defenders nightmares.
Also with a middle to cover them of:

Varane/Morgan
Field

Defence of:
Dunne
Cook
Morrison
Larkeche (because who else do we have).

And Nardi in Goal.

But he won't play that team as he wants Chair central, Walsh in Goal and has Mbs over Morrison.
At least after the last friendly Madsen won't get in the team ... phew!

zzzzzzzzzz

What was up with him after scoring on Saturday ?
He didn't smile, celebrate or want to engage with his team mates.
Just stood there with a slapped arse face.

None of them were smiling or celebrating much.
I think that's the way players are in friendlies.

It all depends on who you have around them, I'd have thought. For me, Field and Varane just aren't strong enough, and, as we know, we can't play out from the back, which is why we might be worryingly unbalanced. We need an enforcer and a ball-playing DCM a la Carrick. Oh, and full backs, and a second forward. Eek!

I think Chair never really got match fit last year; chuck in the mental aspect of Rockgate and he just wasn't on it much.

But he has been hairing around in pre season, looks in great shape and has been pressing like a madman. I think he'll be good on the press this year along with excellent defensive work rate.

Ps I really like Dembele. Got to enjoy quality on the ball where I can. Get the defensive issues though.

Dembele on the left in front of Larkeche is a tad concerning.

Promising in the attacking sense - it was a good pass from Larkeche that teed up Dembele for his goal, but yes you have to think that opposition teams will soon see that as a weak link and roast us down the left side.

I also thought on Saturday Jimmy playing quite advanced, leaving us a bit exposed on the right. Its all very well playing nice expansive football but do fear better teams will see rich pickings down our flanks next season if we continue to set up like this.
