At last a Referee with a spine 09:15 - Jul 28 with 1667 viewsloftboy

In Brazil last night, we saw something most of us fans say should happen but rarely does.. A goalkeeper SENT OFF for constantly time wasting! 😮

CR Vasco da Gama goalkeeper Léo Jardim was booked for time wasting after 68 minutes with his side leading 1-0 away at Sport Club Internacional and after more time wasting, he was given a 2nd yellow and sent off after 86 minutes.

When he was sent off, his club still led 1-0 but Internacional found an equaliser in stoppage time! The game finished 1-1

Posts from Brazilian fans are praising this decision but fear their referees overall aren't consistent enough to do it regularly.

Wouldn't it be good to see such things happen in the British game, it would soon stamp out players wasting time! 👏🏻

it would be good to see it happen in our game, goalkeepers get away with far too much.

8 second rule for gks to release the ball has been added to the laws of the game this season. Let’s see.

Ref's have got to start being stricter and supported by the authorities to do so and actually carry out the rules the authorities put in place themselves.

It's easy to hide behind a clock and add minutes on (as per the ladies v Italy) but you need to clamp down in real time otherwise you just lose control. Spain were starting to schithouse towards the end, there were a couple of fouls given that were no way fouls at all.... the foul against Agyemang was farcical.

Football authorities in general seem to be doing everything they can to stop goals being awarded, you know, the very essence of the game.

There's so much money involved it feels to me everyone is schit scared that a goal is given that should not have been so it's easier to disallow and get it wrong rather than allow and get it wrong.

I'm now hearing that it's being proposed that penalties in open play will be like that in a shootout, i.e. no follow up's or rebounds (inc. coming back off the woodwork) so a goal like Kelly's v Italy would no longer stand. If true, I hope it's rejected. People justifying their jobs by coming up with ever more stupid ideas.

Instead of the 6 second rule that’s been in place or years and never acted on.

I'm a big fan of timewasting offences by keepers being punished with a corner to the opposition team.

It's always noisiest at the shallow end

I remain of the opinion a lot of referees just appreciate the chance for a little rest.

That wouldn't help us much.

Mark Clattenberg was on a podcast this week saying that when people timewaste on throw in, refs should have the power to give it the other way.
