Match day thread : Middlesbrough v Swansea City on 17:08 - Aug 9 by nantywatcher | The new recruits other than Burgess added nothing to our game with Galbraith being the worst of a poor group. |
Galbraith looked decent imo. Some nice interchanges to keep play flowing, but seemed reluctant to try a shot when in a good position. Hopefully there's lots more to come from him.

Match day thread : Middlesbrough v Swansea City on 17:23 - Aug 9 by wwcigne | Very disappointing performance from a game with Draw written all over it.First half was even and you could tell one goal would win it . We gave a sloppy goal away from a corner that Vigaroux could have prevented if he’d come for the ball instead of letting Burgess head out and you just knew it was game over .We were 1-0 down with 1/2 hour left and we were lethargic and lacked any attacking prowess and seemed happy to play pointless little tri-angles in our own half with no urgency or desire to get the ball forward quickly .we made Boro look good .We played with 2 wingers but You could count the number of crosses into the box in the second half half on one hand , Boro just seemed to have so much time and space on the ball ,were quicker in the challenges and were able to pick passes at will to players who always seemed to be in space. We are desperately missing somebody in the midfield who can make things happen because we didn’t have one today . People can call for a forward as much as they like,if they get the same service as today ,we might as well stick with what we’ve got because even Haaland or Mbapoe would have been anonymous today |
Excellent synopsis. I was going to post the same about a striker. Absolutely no point if that’s the way we are going to play.

Match day thread : Middlesbrough v Swansea City on 16:45 - Aug 9 by onehunglow | We were told to ignore pre season games This game shows how we kid ourselves we are playing as we did when losing to the lower league clubs |
This exactly, sand and ostriches spring to mind.

Match day thread : Middlesbrough v Swansea City on 17:41 - Aug 9 with 1235 views | onehunglow | Positive Cabango brave and committed .A real pro Negs Our problem is our full backs Key is the worst defender you will see in Champ His absence on his post unforgivable Swedish lads look skilful and committed YET Fulton started apparently to " protect" Cabsngo The last one to protect anyone A player currently cruising , no frills indeed Vipotnik doesn't seem to have benefited from sheehans coaching Is it a language problem as it's hard to understand Sheehan He's been talking warlocks of late and this bothers me The Pre season is an indicator and what went on on them went on today Yet , some dismiss " friendly" results , like Sheehan One nil down , five mins to go and we go sideways russystyle We looked slow and badly drilled Apart from that , yeah it's the first game of the season so no panic

He will be excellent unless our coaching ruins him I would drop Key and play him instead I'd also go three at the back as Burgess Ben and the west ham lad Today also shows why Vig needs competition

I think it's because, "What should we do about Luke Williams?" was the question. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

He improved us though it's apparent now he couldn't really do any worse Williams has to be the worst manager we've had in years Personally , Ove doubted all recent managers and been proven right every time I have a horrible feeling about this one Sheehan is a likeable guy I'd rather a nasty bugger myself

At least drew? You mean won? You could count the number of shots in the second half on one finger. We were clueless, playing long balls to no one. We weren’t aggressive and didn’t commit often enough to the tackle. It was shambolic. Agreed, Boro were little better but they were and deserved their win by the slimmest of margins. But to suggest we should have won has me scratching my head.

I agree that midfield creativity is the key to more goal chances, but I still think we are very weak up front. Two or three quality crosses came in when Swans players were in the box but they lacked the movement needed to be first to the ball. This is especially the case with aerial crosses. Cullen lacks the physical presence to compete with Championship centre backs for the high ball and Vipotnik never seems to be in the right place at the right time.

But for me we should have moved on in the summer and got in a proper manager. I said it at the time and nothing has changed my mind. Hiring Caretaker managers into the full time role never works

Match day thread : Middlesbrough v Swansea City on 18:01 - Aug 9 with 987 views | howenjack | Physically we look weaker compared to opposing players easily dispossessed or hustled off the ball. Do we do any weight training ? Boro to a lesser extent but Ipswich Brum Southampton and Wrexham look stronger physically than us.

They’re upsetting you by the sounds of it. If you don’t agree, say why. Pathetic responses twice in a day from you. If you disagree, tell me why. I think you’ll be hard pressed to actually disagree with what I said though. Give it a try.

Time will tell, but to me the issue isn't so much Sheehan but rather losing key players and not adequately replacing them. Yes, the new recruits may yet gel, but the head coach can only work with what senior management gives him. I do not think he gets the main say on transfers. The contrast between Lewis O'Brien and Galbraith/Widell today was palpable.
