Swans happy with the distraction as they work on getting players in on 10:03 - Aug 5 with 2495 views | Dr_Winston | Good piece. Concur completely. We always get this kind of panic, impatience and whining in pre-season. It's perhaps even more laughable this time around due to the sheer volume of people doing so, people who three weeks ago were singing the clubs praises and declaring what a refreshing change it was from the previous incumbents. Too many football supporters are at heart mostly like greedy kids in a supermarket whining for sweets. Never happy unless they're being sated.

It’s just amazing how we can go from the start of the year to now and people still complain. There will be more signings. 👍

Agree with that. I’m very upbeat about the season. It may take a few games…and injured player returns…but I’m fully expecting to play in a similar style to last season end. It was really enjoyable to watch and I’m still of a belief the managerial team can get a tune out of the current squad.

I’d say that I’d be ‘happy’ to hear no news at all, not even little hints if it means we get players in without interference from other clubs who seem to be too lazy to do their own scouting. I’m a kid who wants to wait until Christmas morning to open the presents.

That's rather a cliche Eddie Are you getting bored now ? When you retiring then ? You will have more time then to pontificate You struggle with debate and always have so that's a shame too In your job, you know exactly what constitute a shame so to misuse the word is a poor show Still, it gives a break from football matters doesn't it Look after yourself mate

The transfer window is open till the end of the month so I'll give it 10 games and see where we are of course I'd like a fast start but it's far to early to be worried

Ray As I say and repeat , I speak of the now I'm Not interested in the past unless it inspires I wouldn't say I was " worried" , after reflection, but concerned Sport is about momentum and losing becomes a habit I don't see sideways passing as commendable At least , you are one without cant on the heart and it's a pleasure to discuss matters with you Remember , most fans don't use this forum and far greater caustic comments than mine are found on other forums Always be oneself , no matter what

Yes I 95% agree with them. I think it’s been our best summer window in years. I don’t expect us to overpay for players and am well aware that the likes of Kone and McBurnie are going to be on plenty of radars, including clubs that will outmuscle us financially. At the same time, even if we sign someone today, we are going to start the Middlesborough game with Cullen up front on his own, Vipotnik with a minor injury (may or may not be in the squad) and Wales, who looks like he will be eased in gradually. Although it’s been a great window overall, that is a failure and there’s no reason to pretend it’s not. Sheehan wanted the transfer business done early in July, to a large extent it was, but we are still going to start the season fairly toothless.

Thank the Lord for that post We both care and without dreams football is meaningless As for being sensible, considered , objective and analytical , let those employed to do so do exactly that whilst us fans overreact and exaggerate We must be honest with ourselves , at least in private Anyone can post " positive " and create a persona that will impress others whilst knowing , when head hits pillow, that you've lied to yourself

I think it’s fair/important to acknowledge the window as a whole has been a success and we’re in a much better position as a club than we were six months ago. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be concerned at not having addressed the weakest area of last seasons team this late in the window. In a way, they raised expectations by starting the window so well, now we’re more expectant than we were under Levein and co.

It started off better and that's why we were more enthused than previous years It remains a fact , we still have no cover for Vig as I don't consider Fisher anything other than a bad legacy that should never be on our books Striker was and is the priority and has been for years Two key positions

It didn’t just start off better, it still is significantly better. If Levein was still here we’d just be grateful not to have sold Franco for £3/4m. We’re clearly looking to build now. I don’t doubt the intent to strengthen up front is 100% there, but it hasn’t happened yet. My guess is if you’d asked anyone on here back in May if they’d be happy starting the season with Cullen, Vipotnik and Wales, they’d say no. At the same time, if you’d asked them if they’d be happy with Inoussa, Galbraith, Burgess, Wales , Santos, on top of Widdell and not having lost any important players, bar Darling, who their predecessors allowed to run his contract, they’d be delighted.

247, that's a fair statement, that this window as a whole has been a success. But as I have stated before, we're probably going to see a couple of loans from teams at the top of the pyramid toward the end of the transfer window. Until the teams from the PL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Serie A, etc. get their business done, then levels 2 & lower on the pyramid will have to wait for the crumbs to fall off the table. E.g., until Crystal Palace sell Eze AND get a bead on his replacement, then why would they allow a promising, up and coming player to go out on loan? Yes, it would be great to get our business done early, but really, has or will that ever going to happen?

I’m actually one of the few on here that has no issue with signing loan players in key positions. I used Lewis O’Brien to illustrate the point before the window opened. I see a lot of benefit in borrowing players above the level we could buy. The reality is,waiting until the end of August and then picking up a starlet on loan was not and never will be the way any club wants to do business. Way too much can go wrong. We wouldn’t be bidding £4.5m if that was what we were looking to do. There’s a difference between adding an exciting talent to the squad when the top clubs have had their shakedown and starting the season the way we are going to. Does business ever get done early? Of course it does. I can pretty much guarantee you that the sides who will be at the top in May will have their squad ready now. There will be additions late August and January of course, but none of them will start the season with a strike force like ours. Don’t mean this to come across negatively. I genuinely think it’s been a fantastic window, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still be a little disappointed with our striking options.
