whining on 22:51 - Aug 7 with 829 views | Ron11 | I really hope so, and it'll be amazing, but if not, I think quite a few won't be able to take any more humiliation caused by the shower of shite running the club.
whining on 23:14 - Aug 7 with 790 views | Southamptonfan | That's what 2 relegations in 3 years does to you. This is a famous old club that was in the top league for years. And then hearing our owners say and I quote from tonight "We can't compete. Other clubs out do our revenue 5 fold, we have an income of 150 million, Man City have 750 million. We are up against it." What hope for future success can you get from that? People have their own minds. I can't see the point of pretending this lot will bring exciting times ahead. It's nothing like the Marcus Libheer times. [Post edited 7 Aug 23:20]

the truth hurts doesnt it,success for the likes of us is what,go up and try to get 40 points to stay up.Other than the super clubs that is the basic aim of the rest, the big clubs have it tied up,not even the richest club newcastle can break into the cartel.Dont get me wrong i want to be promoted but we as saints fans need to understand what we are.

I would be happy to survive in the PL on 40 points. At least that means we would have won some games. Last season was nowhere near that. Nottingham Forest took the risk and did the thing that you need to do to try and stay up. And that is invest properly in quality players. Otherwise, what's the point of going up? I don't know about you, but that quote tells me that under this lot, they just want us to accept another year of struggle in the PL, if we do manage to go up. What about some ambition? Bournemouth, Fulham, Brentford etc can get success but we have to accept a relegation battle at best? I would rather not go to games that are not competitive, and getting thrashed every week. I would rather stay in the Championship. But that is nothing to be enthusiastic about. [Post edited 7 Aug 23:34]

Slightly off topic, but I agree with you on Bournemouth and Brentford struggling this season.

40 points was always recognised to be the target for safety although it's probably a fair bit lower these days. After last season a target approaching 40 points in the Premier League seems like a totally unattainable target for us, it's 10 wins and 10 draws. The fact that achieving those numbers seems impossible shows how far this club has fallen under the ownership of SR. They continue to operate as a buy and sell for profit organisation which is a race to the bottom as they are clearly demonstrating. Until their ambitions change this downward spiral will carry on.

We can only hope. It still hurts to see Bournemouth where they are and the way we have fallen from grace with last season being to worst in our living memory. And they are getting excited about a 20k capacity stadium!! Brentford also seem to be selling their silverware and with Frank having gone also they could very well struggle

The Markus Liebher times were actually just one season, one in which we underperformed and registered our lowest League position since 1959/60 but remembered because we won the Johnstones Paint Trophy. Our best seasons in the past two decades were the 3 seasons under Katharina Liebher 2016/17 when we finished 7th, 6th & then in 2016/17th 8th and reached the League cup final. Times have changed since then, but still plenty of things to look forward to

The underperformed part as you put it, points to a slow start, but could be down to the fact that we were deducted 10 points that season, so we would have finished 5th and made the play-offs. Granted we only won one of our first 10 games that season, but really pushed after that and finished the season losing just 3 of our last 22 games. The JPT win gave a tremendous boost to the team and fans.
