Now I watched from the comfort of my armchair the season opener at home to Tranmere Rovers on Sky Sports+.
First half was both disappointing and slow but second half DC made some key and brave interventions and those proved critical as we deservedly equalised through Kyreece Lisbie who is going to be a star striker for the U’s this year.
Another 5 minutes and we would have won the game.
Tomorrow we travel to Boundary Park Oldham led by Micky Mellon.
My son and daughter in law are taking me in the car and I have my new Away shirt and very good it is too.
He will be keen to get off to a good home start against the Super U’s. Former U Luke Hannant might play otherwise seasoned U’s supporters will be familiar with several of the Latics playing staff.
Away supporters have been moved to the Chadderton end for the last couple of visits. Expect a decent and partizan crowd. I have been visiting Boundary Park for many years and it is very good to be reassociated with them after three years away from the league.
Tomorrow will be exacting. Oldham took a point from MK Dons (who have emerged as the bookies favourites for promotion). Frankly I don’t buy into that.
Ahead of the Oxford Carabao Cup game (televised) we should be looking to secure a vital away win. That is without any disrespect to the Latics.
Early days of course DC is still deciding upon his first XI But let’s go with 4,4,2
Macey
Baldwin Tucker Flanagan Powell
Thorn Bishop Perry Edwards
Lisbie Williams
Subs: Smith Goodwin Akande Tovide Gordon Read KVY
Weather will be sunny intervals with a moderate breeze and 19 degrees Celsius.
Safe journey to all the travelling faithful.
Prediction 3-1 to the Super U’s with Edwards, Lisbie and Wiliams all on the scoresheet. Up the U’s

Super U's get off to a great start at Boundary Park with three valuable points on 07:26 - Aug 9 with 992 views
Cheers Durham, safe travelling to you and the family. Reading the Oldham MB matchday thread, there seems to be a concern about where the goals might be coming from, which sounds familiar. On that note, despite his no doubt disappointment over the Luton transfer, I’d start with Tovide. Moping on the bench won’t help, get him on the pitch to take it out on the Oldham defence.

Wessex It's ironic that we now have four/five decent strikers. I'm torn on the Tovide issue. We will probably never know the truth about the medical. It seems that Luton only wanted to pay £250k instead of the £450k that we wanted. Have the Cowleys already decided that we would be losing Samson and so their plans have now changed.
I like Lisbie Williams Goodwin and Tovide but does Samson deserve it expect a start when he wants away I'm just not sure. Anyway three points is the order of the day. Up the U's

Sadly, I’m committed to cricket on Saturdays for another few weeks but will be heading for Oxford.
Oldham was always an away trip that I enjoyed, but last time there it was depressing. A club in turmoil, but a fantastic following of fans that deserve better than a half finished new stand and an otherwise dilapidated arena. Hopefully success in the National League has brought improvements, but not too many on the pitch. They were terrible against Accrington Stanley mid-week, so I see this fixture as a benchmark for U’s 2025-26 status.

No doubt there’ll be a big crowd for their first home game back in league - be good to keep them quiet if possible. See you at the Kassam Noah, think TOOT might be traveling over too.
Not far off your starting line-up Durham. Rumour that Baldwin picked up an injury in training, so not in the squad, Hunt and Anderson start and Powell on the bench - along with Samson and Payne.

Still waiting to hear from the chauffeur
If I do I’ll save you a glass of Cristal.
Tough game today, if we pass this one, we could be on our way.

I see from the club X-feed that at the request of the EFL we're playing in our all black third kit today. Presumably it was the blue shorts. No matter.

Another day another draw. Similar start to our form last season.
Tough game. We looked good for 20-25 minutes, then backs to the wall for much of the remainder, but defended well. I was pleased with Perry's performance, and a point was overall deserved. Great to see Samson and Jack P get on the pitch.
Oxford next, but we're currently unbeaten in three including last season, with three draws. Got to start converted some of these into 3pts, but for now, Up the hard to beat U's!
Not convinced about the way Thorn is being used. But another draw? That's a habit from the first part of last season, and needs to be broken fast. It was backs to the wall stuff. We just about survived, but we look very shaky at the back at times. We are missing Iandolo big time. Edwards looks lost at times without the supply from him.
