Last season we didn't lose a single game when we scored a minimum of 2 goals. In fact, we only drew 2, against Leeds (who got promoted) and SU (who hilariously didn't). And that was with a pretty dire/injured strike force. This season, we have score once in each league game. If we had scored twice (and we had chances to do so) we would now have four points instead of one and the mood would be a lot more positive. We appear (very early days), to have upgraded our strike force this season, with three players who scored regularly in the level below. If even two of them step up (my money on Kone and Poku ) and start to score regularly, plus you would hope (expect) Chair and Dembele to chip in more than last season, then we should start picking up points, even with a leaky defence. |  | | |  |

Without question a second goal would have taken out Preston and while getting outplayed a draw against Watford which would have changed the early season frustration Myke IMO
We almost never get comfortably ahead (leeds 2 years ago ) and still are guilty of giving goals away around halftime which seems to hang around our necks.
Defense and lack of clean has been a bitter dissapointment most of the last 2 years and continues to be .

Coventry must be facing a real dilemma for next week. Not only will they not know exactly how unfit the players we do have available are, they also won’t know who’s injured/unavailable or unfit enough to play two games in a week.
Lots of real positives on the signings but I cannot fathom deliberately starting a season with a lack of fitness to prevent injuries especially when we have loads of injuries. If that’s what’s even happened. But what do I know about sports ‘science’

Because we don't need 3 to win games. Read my opening piece again. We didn't lose a single game when we managed to score twice. Derby got 3 on Saturday and still got beaten comfortably in the end. With the exception of Burnley, despite a pretty dire season we were competitive in most games. Games that we dominated last season but failed to get more than 1 while on top - I'm thinking Portsmouth and Plymouth we either list or drew. Yet games we played poorly in - Cardiff away - we score a couple and win the game. So hopefully with an improved/fitter a strike force that trend will continue this season. | | | |

If Stephan chooses to play with 2 strikers i.e. Kone & Burrell QPR should probably manage to score 2 goals.
Warburton at times used a 5-3-2 to fit in 2 strikers
Stephan might need to play Varane and Field together as 2 holding midfielders and 3 attacking midfielders i.e. Morgan , Chair & Dembele
He would obviously need to work on a formation that would fit the squad, but that's why he is the Head Coach. | | | |

I've not missed the point at all, but it's a hardly a revelation. Two goals a game is a very high bar - a team in the Championship with that strike rate will invariably finish top two and it doesn't even happen every season. | |

Course if we had scored 2 today, we would still have been hammered, but we only scored 1. Last year if we had scored 2 at home to Burnley then we would still have been hammered, but we didn't score at all.
Two goals per game this season, is not that high a bar, especially with our improved strike force. The only glimmer of a silver lining today is that Kone got off the mark after failing to score in the final 11 games last season.. We have at least one decent striker on our books (knowing our luck he will probably do his ACL) and decent suppliers in Poku (who also weighs in with a good few), Chair, Dembele and (possibly) Saito. Of course, we won't score 2 goals in every game and if we play like today, we will concede many more. But it is still a fascinating stat from last season and something to cling onto on this darkest of (QPR) days. | | | |
