McCarthy gives an experienced head in the defensive unit and I’d prefer him over Bazunu. I’d rather neither of them but it looks like we are stuck with these three so it is what it is.
Bednarek would have been an experienced asset at Championship level (not good enough for PL) but his agent cleverly inserted a low relegation release clause into his new contract.
Che Adams was excellent at holding the ball up with his back to goal and playing others in as we got up the field. We need someone who can do this, but we are top heavy with front men so again we are stuck with what we’ve got.
We thought that we had the answers,
It was the questions we had wrong.

flyne downes i thought was poor again, hes just so sloppy in everything he does.
Agreed, at least 3 times he gave the ball away in dangerous position. Mcarthy better than Bazanu. Some good signs especially Archer who looked like he could give a toss for once.
I’ll take any goals we score as being good, no matter how basic the approach. However, in very short highlights, Edwards stars with two massive errors, I don’t get how he is selected.

Has Sesay been injured? I wonder because he seemed to feature a lot in the pre-season games, but then not when the real stuff kicked off. I thought he had been quite good in the games he played in.

McCarthy, near post blindness aside got us promoted. He isn't the best goalkeeper on Earth but he is many saves better than Bazunu.
I agree McCarthy is a better shot stopper than Baz & he's very calm under pressure. Also being taller he's better at taking crosses. Now that we're not playing that ridiculous RM fancy possession football at the back then I'd have McCarthy every time over Baz. McCarthy is not great with the ball at his feet but that's not a problem if we get the ball forward quicker as we appear to be doing.

No one has mentioned the little cameo from Charlie Taylor. He might not have been on the pitch for long but it was long enough to show his experience & quality. If fit he should be 1st choice left back.

Sadly I missed this one last night. Was his cameo very good? I.E. better than Wellington or Manning? I have liked what I have seen of Charlie Taylor before I must admit.

In the short time he was in the pitch I thought Charlie Taylor looked very composed a definite upgrade on both Wellington & Manning. But he's had a few injuries & possibly not yet fit enough to play 90 mins.
