Transfers 20:16 - Aug 29 with 1208 views | mushinexile | I don't often have a lot to say in favour of SR but it looks as though some lessons have been learned. We have ditched quite a lot of dead wood, gone a long way towards sorting out the finances and finally invested in some footballers who appear not to be blind, slow or broken. Well done, for once. Let's hope it translates to the pitch.

Transfers on 20:37 - Aug 29 with 1143 views | Southamptonfan | Totally agree. I moaned about signing Quashie and Downes because they were unproven, too young for the immediate success that we need i.e promotion this season. They have already been dropped, because they arnt good enough yet, even if they do get better in time. Our signings in the past, Mara, Tall Paul, Larios, Sulemana and so on have hardly worked have they. However, I will congratulate the club on bringing in quality players, proven at this level. They have done this, it's quite exciting that players from quite good championship clubs have decided to come to us. They score goals at this level, they create at this level, they are proven. Who wouldn't agree that signing proven quality isnt more exciting than keep buying unknown players from inferior leagues!? So yes, well done Saints on bringing in players that are very likely to fire us tovthe top of the league. Looks like they have finally learnt, as you say.

Just need to rid ourselves of Stephens, get an organising CB in the defence and change McCarthy to first choice and we're all set

As I said to someone on here the other day after he questioned whether top championship players would come here.,I said they will come to us because we are a big fish in this league. They know we are after promotion and will want to prove themselves in the premier league. We can dangle that carrot in front of them .

Exactly right. We can do the same thing if we get promoted to the PL. Show some ambition, say the right things, perhaps they need to pay a bit more to really show their ambitions, but do it and get this club competing in the PL again as it should. Bring in proven quality players. Too much acceptance of failure and mediocrity in the past. [Post edited 29 Aug 21:35]

Transfers on 09:34 - Aug 30 with 612 views | City_boy | Just a new quality striker and if Aribo, Smallbone and Diaz leave, It will have been a reasonable window.

Striker? Vardy’s still available.

Transfers on 09:55 - Aug 30 with 552 views | dirk_doone | The main lesson we've learned in recent years is that we need a goalscoring centre forward and I think that's what most fans would have said we needed most of all at the beginning of this transfer window. So far, Damion Downs doesn't look like he's the answer, but I really hope he proves me wrong. With a 20+ goalscorer we could win the Championship. He knows: https://www.facebook.com/reel/773250988743283?locale=en_GB [Post edited 30 Aug 10:03]

He would be good at this level, but would probably want too much money. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I'd trade all of the players we've bought this summer for Ayoub El Kaabi, but he wouldn't cost any more than Damion Downs.
