We Got A Live One on 07:12 - Aug 30 with 1509 views | HammersmithR | It’s a very valid question and one I am glad he asked. I’m still not having that Stephan decided for example that prior to the debacle and farce of the Plymouth game he was only going to play youth players. That decision came from above. He had been in the building for 5 mins and knew enough about the youth players to know which ones to pick and where. Then the whole Nardi and Walsh situation. He’s clearly been told by above that given Nardi’s situation not to play him so he can be sold for whatever sum of money the club want. These are the sort of reasons why Marti fell out with the board. He wasn’t going to be Nourry’s yes man. Stephan needs to grow a pair and make his own decisions and if it pi55es off Nourry then so be it. Winning games and getting us out the relegation zone is the priority at the moment.
We Got A Live One on 07:36 - Aug 30 with 1408 views | derbyhoop | The question was blunt and the answer even more so. However, I cant believe that JS was wholly responsible for that shambles at Plymouth. I know we'd had injuries to 1st team p,Ayers and there was a need to protect. But, consider this :- We only play in 3 competitions all season We chose to play a virtual DS squad Totally against the run of play, we lead 2-0 at HT So, we take off the only player who was giving us an outlet. Nothing against Dillon but he doesnt offer the same as Burrell Unsurprisingly, we allow the home side all the possession, so end up 3-2 down In an effort to save the game, we throw on 2 16yo. In the 86th minute!!! Then, having rested most of the First team, we put in a very weak 45 minutes at Watford. If JS was really responsible for all that, he should pack his bags and go back to France. Many more like the first 4 games and the decision will be taken out of his hands.

I absolutely haven’t in any way. I think Steve has in his post rather than me. It was actually my entire point.

Not necessarily. Maybe it is ‘his decision’ what team is picked, but it just so happens that the decision he made keeps him in a job and his line manager happy.
We Got A Live One on 08:57 - Aug 30 with 1137 views | loftboy | I’m definitely not sure about him but surely we have to give him 10 games at least

We Got A Live One on 09:02 - Aug 30 with 1126 views | TGRRRSSS | Not unfair in itself but such a drubbing so early.... I think anyone can see the bigger issue is above but then big question is why take this job...
We Got A Live One on 09:03 - Aug 30 with 1120 views | BklynRanger | He's asked if 'others have input into picking the team' - I think it could have been asked more bluntly if he'd chosen to. What I find interesting is JS getting snippy about that question so early in his tenure - total speculation, but is that a sign of stress and irritability before his fifth game in charge has kicked off? He also said on the Offish, when asked the usual question about message to the fans, in advance of Charlton and following the fans day, that he'd apologised after last week and he wasn't going to apologise every day. There were other positive, run of the mill things after that, but again it maybe hinted at a bit of an early struggle with it all, I thought. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Ten games where he picks the team and tactics, or ten games where Nourry does? I believe it will be JS's team and tactics today - so I'm going to start judging him from today.
We Got A Live One on 09:36 - Aug 30 with 987 views | Northernr | If a question comes up at the fans forum about tactics and the mic is taken by the CEO for a five minute chat about his preferred formations before the head coach is allowed to speak, then when he does he says “see, he’s the manager”, you do rather leave yourself open to questions like this.

Yeah naivety from all involved really, Nourry leaving himself very open to accusations of overbearing micromanagement and JS leaving himself open to being portrayed as a weakling puppet. I'm still on the fence with JS, it's hard to get a sense of what kind of coach we have because he's been hindered by fitness issue, he's still developing his English, we're still adding players to the squad, and a 7-1 catastrophe is an unusual thing to have to deal with so early on. It does feel like today will make a lot of people's minds up about him tho.
We Got A Live One on 09:46 - Aug 30 with 944 views | PlanetHonneywood | I'd like to see the whole interview. However, thank God Chuckle Brother #1 asked the question as opposed to #2, or we'd still be waiting. Either way, these guys just don't do 'live' interviews well in my view, not sure they develop a rapport with the interviewee to get good answers out. Anyway, let's see it all first. If I were going to ask such a leading question like 'are you a puppet?', I'd have teed JS up beforhand and clearly tell him why folks are thinking this is the case. Maybe they did but his reaction suggests otherwise and my entry point would have been the league Cup game. Why? What was 'your' thinking? Maybe they also asked what his preferred formation and style of play would be? Of course, only so much he could say 'if' CN is pulling the strings. I also wonder how JS has come out of it. It might fire him up. It might hack him off. But in the absence of clear evidence to the contrary, move on from the point as best we can.

We Got A Live One on 10:17 - Aug 30 with 832 views | BazzaInTheLoft | If I remember rightly, he misunderstood a joke at the fan forum, and had a grumpy reaction. He’s got it in him I reckon. Only a good thing if the players respect you. [Post edited 30 Aug 10:17]

We Got A Live One on 02:12 - Aug 30 by FredManRave | Good point. The original closed question asked was a waste because there was only ever going to be one answer. A better thought out open question along the lines of, "Can you please explain the reasons behind your decision to drop Nardi for Walsh" or something similar, would have been much better. |
Exactly this. I doubt anyone seriously thinks Nourry is picking the team, what we would like to know though is whether he has instructed Stephan to not pick Nardi (and Smyth?) due to contract situations. I'd also like to hear the managers honest thoughts on the fitness of his squad, but I doubt we'll ever get that.

We Got A Live One on 10:22 - Aug 30 with 820 views | dm97 | I’d be pissed off if I was him too. If he is picking the team, the club are not exactly going out of their way to make that clear (see above points about fans forum). He’s got a fan base generally looking at him and thinking “we liked our previous foreigner more thank you oh and you’re a bit French for me”, and a squad with very little grit to it, who love to fold under pressure. Just like everyone who came before him, he’s probably realised what he’s walked into. You’ll dislike the next managers “shrugs” too. As Padula says - if you think he’s the problem you’re missing the point. [Post edited 30 Aug 10:23]

This. As has been said, Julien Stephan could well turn out to be A problem but I'm pretty certain he's not THE problem. Crucial difference.

With a year left on their contracts, I can get CN's thinking. However, it can only go so far if it's weakening the ability to deliver above the line short-term gains for the project. And frankly, if you can't improve on Smyth, you might as well pack it in. But the fitness issue point you raise, I'd also like to know as I just can't see it being of JS' making. Maybe if the Chuckle Brothers had a good rapport with 'someone' inside the project, we could really find out and it might be to JS' advantage overall..if you know what I mean.

If today’s selection/approach is entirely Stephan, I am astonished. Hope it works, but it seems like we’re going to double down even more on the game model, not become more pragmatic…

Don't we already know the answer to this? QPR have to be a selling club, we've got lots of goalkeepers on the books. Our first choice last year is now over 30 and has little resale value. One of our goalkeepers, Joe Walsh is 23 now, but has played less than 30 league games. If we want to try and sell him next season he has to get some games under his belt. Is playing in a struggling team the best for him? I don't know, but this is why he's being played.
