Kone’s goal yesterday as executed by every R’s striker since 2015. 10:14 - Aug 31 with 1784 viewsDannyPaddox

It was fantastic yesterday to see a QPR centre-forward go through on goal, and though he still had a fair bit to do before putting it away, it felt as if the whole crowd had total confidence in him. It’s been along time since that has happened. I don’t think enough has been made of Kone’s first touch - it was perfectly weighted and left him with the best chance to finish. And a delightful classy composed finish it was. Also pleasing was first touch was left foot, second touch (shot) was right foot. More power (and goals) to you Richard Kone.

But the point of this thread is we had a convo in the pub after on how each of our previous centre-forwards (since coming back down to the Championship) would have taken that chance and here are the conclusions. You just won’t believe number four!

Conor Washington
A bad first touch lets the defender back in the game but CW keeps on running with the ball, running running running. He’s taken it past the keeper but he’s left himself a very tight angle due to the fact he’s now in the first row of the lower loft. Conor doesn’t score. Which is a shame cos he just needed that one goal for his confidence.

Seb Polter
Takes a surprisingly good first touch then smashes the ball straight into Batman Close

Matt Smith
Having just come on as a sub Matt’s old legs haven’t quite warmed up yet. Shins his first touch straight to the keeper.

Idris Sylla
Gets the ball caught under his legs giving both defenders time to recover and put a challenge in but somehow he eludes both. Now one on one with the keeper he again gets the ball stuck under his legs. Arms and legs all over the place he tangles with the keeper who knocks the ball off Sylla’s knee or is it his elbow and it’s in. GOAL!

Nahki Wells
Maybe one out of only one or two of the bunch who would have scored in a similar way to Kone

Jordan Hugill
First touch not too pretty but he’s still left himself with a decent chance and he hits the ball with venom. Which is unfortunate for the 10 year old in the Upper Loft who gets it full in the face.

Marco Ramkilde
Your guess is as good as mine.

Macauley Bonne
The ball falls into his path nicely but Bonne is distracted - he’s just discovered new Yuzu Lemon Jaffa Cakes (a real thing) and he’s shoving them down his cake hole. Referee signals for VAR. VAR!? And there’s a tense wait while the boys at Stockley Park check on every conceivable angle to decide whether they’re cakes or biscuits

Charlie Austin
Chaz is out of position as the ball gets played through. In fact he’s sitting in the Ellerslie Road / Stan Bowles Stand having a sulk. Austin mark 1 circa 2014 would have buried it in a carbon copy of Kone’s goal.

Lyndon Dykes
At full stretch Dykes’s acrobatic diving header from just past the half-way line doesn’t trouble the keeper.

Andre Gray
Another that on his day probably would have put that one away.

Sinclair Armstrong
Cheeks puffing, eyes bulging, Sincs over-hit first touch lets him down but he keeps on running and smashes into the keeper, dives, and claims a penalty. Not given. But the Charlton keeper is hurt in the collision and after an extended time for the physio to patch him up Charlton equalise in time added on.

Chris Martin
(See Matt Smith)

Jamal Lowe
Good first touch but shot is more of a pass to the keeper.

Charlie Kelman
Who are ya!?

Michi Frey
Bad first touch then pulls hamstring running after the lost cause.

Žan Celar
Great first touch. Takes the ball round the keeper and slots it past him. Žan arms aloft celebrates with the Loft but alas after going past the keeper the ball hits the post and off for a goal-kick. Genuine best of luck in Germany. Que sera sera.

He also looks to where the keeper thinks he is going to put it and waits that split second to allow the keeper to put his wight that side and then tucks it in the very small gap he's left on the near post. Probably gave him the eyes to make that wight shift. Proper striker's finish. Very Charlie Austin and Les Ferdinand.

Never knowingly right.

Small correction on Bonne: he's flagged offside before anything else could happen

King Kone or King Richard?

I think he was called both at Wycombe but I must make this plea. King Kone is fine (even though I am strictly anti monarchy). But, King Richard is not. Why? He'll then be called Richard the Lionheart, who was one of, if not, the worst medieval king of England.

King Kone, OK?

Agreed.

Also Matt would've been bundled over by a defender but not given a pen because it's Matt innit.

That man sure loves to show off his thighs we might need NBA length shorts if he keeps scoring like that .
Loved that anticipation to get in behind. took a generous touch to get away then calmly slotted it home to cause that "stairs goal" for the loft pretty amazing way to cap the day

I'm so used to that catalogue of strikers that my first thought yesterday from Safe standing was that he'd missed it..

Abdenasser El Khayati

Heads straight for the touchline by the Paddocks and tries to curl it into the top corner.

"Remember to listen to me but look at her. Don't get it the wrong way round. That would be hideous."

Neither. IMO it sounds juvenile and leaves him open to criticism if he has a bad day. Maybe a song along the tune of Mony Mony by Tommy Jones & The Shondells would suffice.

The grass is always greener.
