Millwall away 1971/2 at the den sitting on a crash barrier on the halfway line with my Dad wearing a blue and white woolen scarf around my neck. Some young herbert starts trying to take it off me. Policeman sees it and then stands next to me for the rest of the game.

Thing is Dad not only took me to the den at 11 yrs old he also let me wear a scarf as well.

Innocent times.

I believe there was a game there in 1986 when we sold half the stadium easily. Shame about what happened when the game began……

We had 56,000 - 57,000 there that day

To put that in context................

In fairness I'm sure there were a lot of fans of other clubs with us for the day out but out of the crowd of c91K i don't think 56K to 57K is far off as Oxford only sold around 30k

Half the ground was definitely rangers and there seemed to a fair few thousand more in the Oxford side of the ground

That Liverpool game there was 3 of us. Alan Griffiths was one of them who ended up being a main front with c mob.

We always gave each other a customary nod later on in passing as our paths differed. Once coming back from Oldham they ran amok stealing all the food in one of the services. Alright Alan, alright Mark as mayhem endured.

80 of us at Liverpool away 1986

But lets be honest we didn't even know the game was on (I didn't ) and it was 3-4 days after the milk cup final second leg

I had Chicken Pox n missed the Southampton home game after that 0-2 usual after the lord mayor's show FFS

Ipswich away 83-84 and Norwich 83-84 were really good turn outs.

Ipswich in the cup Jan 85 reckon we had between 4K and 4.5K

To be honest i hated Jim Smith Oxford fan

I'd say our away support is bang average for the Championship and has tailed off slightly over past season or two.
There seems to be an invisible line just above Nottingham where our support starts falling off a cliff. The difference between numbers we take to Leicester and Sheffield is stark - lose at least 60% I'd say.
We still seem to have literally 1000s who are scared to go to Millwall. I don't think we have properly sold our allocation and rammed that top deck ever. We definitely have never spilled into the lower tier. Nearly managed it 5ish years ago when we won 1-2 there but there were still empty seats in the corners, maybe 200 shy of full.
Look, like all clubs we have a bunch of loyal supporters who go everywhere come thick or thin. We have loyal supporters who pick and choose their games and we have tourists who make an appearance for sexy games. Just a normal fanbase in my view, nothing wrong with that. But, depicting us as this massive loud army that intimidates the home team is a bit of exaggeration I feel.

Erm 04-05 and 05-06 we took the most to Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
more than Everton and the Victims in the cup

And to be honest I know a bit about about wall via family so think you are at least wrong those years as they used to publish the away support in the programme.

I've often wondered why most of our supporters seem to get a nose bleed at around Derby.

We quite often take over 2000 to Derby, but Sheffield which is only 30 minutes up the road, our support falls off a cliff

I'm fairly certain that in 2013/14 we sold out both tiers at Millwall. Having to spend the best part of 40 minutes locked in at the end of the match is why I've not bothered to return. And that was to watch the s**t that Harold served up for us!

Cold Blow Lane in the 72/73 season was my most frightening experience watching Rangers & it was only 3 or 4 days after surviving Ninian Park! Don Givens didn't help us at Millwall that day when he signalled 1-0 to the crowd!

Er yeah I think Millwall it's not so much the home support aggro (which to be honest is non existent given how you get into the ground) but the amount of time waiting after the game to be let out and get home again!

My old canard about a midweek game at Millwall, you'd get home quicker from a midweek game in the Midlands if you were driving.

The last time I can remember us packing out the Millwall away end was 04/05. The ref bottled a cast iron penalty for us in the last minute of a 0-0 draw

I think our away support, indeed all our support has held up remarkably well considering we're perpetually 18th in the championship. I've been particularly impressed by the amount of younger people turning up. There was a time I would know the names of most of the away mob, not any more.

Where are the younger fans coming from? It used to be the Grove, the Bush and then Northolt and Perivale, now I have no idea. Is there a hotbed of young Rangers fans somewhere?

Also good to see more diversity in the crowd, more women, more people of colour. The future is bright the future is Rangers.

I did genuinely make it back to Barnet quicker from a midweek at Burton than I did from Millwall.
