Wales v Canada : Together Stronger, yeah right mate … on 07:41 - Sep 10 by Dr_Winston | You don't turn up at the best known Swans pub wearing obvious Cardiff markers unless you're doing it to be tw*ts. This will no doubt be spun into the "Six of us took on dozens of Jacks!" type fairytale that we've seen plenty of times before, even when they hid in Morriston and asked for a Police escort to a game. No regrets about washing my hands of the whole thing. |
No doubt, they were all ‘on their toes’. I can see another Pulitzer book prize on the horizon.

Wales v Canada : Together Stronger, yeah right mate … on 08:51 - Sep 10 by jack247 | I get this, because I agree with most of it and if I didn’t go to the occasional game, I’d feel the same. Reality is, it’s totally different at games now. You’ll get the very rare scrote, but it’s 99% people supporting their country. Nobody cares where anyone’s from or who their club is. Unfortunately, if people from Swansea turn their back on Wales because of how it was 20 years ago or governing body/media bias, they will be proving the Cardiff fans right. |
Well I’m glad that it has improved amongst the fans that is great- what will never improve is the “all about Cardiff” - the fragile capital city egos that are still upset that they had to give up their swimming pool FFS 🤦. No matter how much lipstick the smear on that particular pig 🐷 it’s not going to make them the new Paris , or the new Bristol for that matter.

Bristol is a much nicer city than Cardiff in every capacity. Tend to go there on the piss a couple of times a year and always enjoy.

I live just off North Street in Southville/Bedminster - that’s got lots and lots of trendy bars and bouji restaurants but across the footbridge in Hotwells and the Harbour it’s even better. Much friendlier and with much more historical interest. Clifton is one of the most amazing residential places I’ve ever been to. Dripping with class.

I know Bedminster a little bit. Mate of mine used to live in the Robinson building. She's out in Fishponds now. My mother also used to run pubs in both Horfield and Bishopsworth so I've been coming back and fore since the late 90's on and off. The Harbourside is a cracking night out. Have drunk plenty of silly strength cider in the Apple. Some very good ale pubs on King Street too.

This is a fair point. I just don’t see it as a reason not to support Wales. Yes, they are deluded and entitled and probably always will be. As a fanbase and just as a general population. I suppose you get luke that when everything is given to you. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We had a good works afternoon out on cup final day earlier this year and we were outside the Kings street brew house sat down on the multitude of benches outside. Went on the that darts place “flight club”. What a cracking day out. The Kings Head on Bridgewater Road is kind of Bishopsworth - the exact area is called Uplands and there are some lovely houses there too.

The place she used to run in Bishopsworth is called The Tythings now. Was The Elm Tree at the time. I don't know if the area has gentrified a bit over the last 25 years but it had a certain reputation then. We've done pub crawls all over Bristol over the years. Clifton was a good one. Gloucester Road I've done a few times. There's even a fairly good brewery tap room one than can be done mostly on foot.

You don't know then ? They've built a Olympic size swimming pool down the bay now . Come on they had to have one , whatever anyone in Wales have , they must have

My daughter has been living in Bristol for three years in the Redlands and Clifton area. What a fab place and a great vibe. One of the bars/hotels also has an amazing view over Clifton suspension bridge (White Lion is pub and Avon Gorge hotel restaurant) - decent food in there as well

Wales v Canada : Together Stronger, yeah right mate … on 01:39 - Sep 13 with 2307 views | Robbie | Many years ago on a visit to Bristol and a wander down the Harbourside came across a film crew from the BBC take on a boat moored at a dockside weighing anchor and departing into open water . Found out later it was a shot made for It aint Half hot Mum supposed to be have and been screened with an Indian take on the editing . Bristol to India in a tele shot before CGI and FX illusions took over Cinema . It was laugh back then but would never be commissioned these days by TV . I do like Bristol as a go to day out or upcoming Show too .

Still to bitter to come to Cardiff are you Winston? Having lived in both Cardiff and Bristol, I don’t think there is much difference these days, in fact most of my old Bristol friends have been coming here far more this summer and last for gigs and general going out. Bristol probably still edges it for small gigs but only because Cardiff lost some decent small venues. Plenty of Bristol lads all used to flock to woodies, pavilion and Howells back in the day, there really wasn’t much for decent clothes in Bristol and park street area apart the centre isn’t very nice at all…..as for bother at wales games there really isn’t now unless you really want to look for it? Good n bad everywhere

The reason is they can fit 12,000 more fans in than the Swansea.Com. Wales v Belgium is sold out, the game is a month away. Oh, and half of our gang who support Wales home and away , and there are about 20 of us, are Scummers. Good lads.

I go to Cardiff to see bands, comedy shows etc and it’s great for that. I live in Bristol and their waterside area is quite big and very lively, the architecture hasn’t been badly affected like Swansea’s was during the war and Clifton in itself is breathtaking. I live in Bedminster and it’s very quirky and trendy, hundreds of beautifully painted murals on house/pub/ old factory walls. I suppose another factor for me is how hilly it is, like Swansea its topography is a lot more different compared to Cardiff . Its history goes on a lot longer than Cardiff or Swansea’s so no shame in that and of course it’s much wealthier.

Exactly, you and fireboy know the score because you go…..there will always be idiots about, like in life, as you get older you learn how to avoid them. Give me a seat next to a proper Jack anyday of the week rather than some glory hunter south wales Liverpool fan. Now they are a breed I will never ever have time for.

Wales v Canada : Together Stronger, yeah right mate … on 21:29 - Sep 9 by Dr_Winston | Walesonline has been a joke for years. Same with BBC Wales. As a club we outgrew both of them in about 2008. Compare the respect we get from the likes of Sky, even since we got relegated, to our supposed "local" media and the difference is clear. It shouldn't be like that from the BBC as it's licence fee funded. WOL can do what it likes before it goes bankrupt. |
This pees me off more than anything else. We’ve never had the respect we’ve deserved from WOL (but that is down to the WM being a local paper which cannot give full unbiased coverage to every club team - the BBC is far worse just because it is supposed to have no bias as a country wide tv station funded by licence payers. On the whole Cardiff fans from inside Cardiff are ok - but some of their valleys support basically aren’t. I’m quite happy just to go to Swans games and let them have the international team and maybe turn up when they are going to a tournament.

I agree, the waterside old buildings are lovely, as are some around the centre. I was quite shocked when I lived there ( Redland, Kingsdown and Montpelier) on how the city seems so divided by wealth, those who lived up the hill ( Clifton, redland, cotham, hot wells etc) almost lived in a different world to those lower down….clifton is on another level to be honest, very wealthy people many of whom don’t even live there all the time. Even the students were minted, some had parents who bought them houses for £600,000 outright whilst they were in uni. Being that much older, Bristol has some lovely old pubs, far more than Cardiff does….
