NL Cup v Blackburn u21s 18:28 - Sep 16 with 8518 views | 442Dale | Surprised to see so many who finished the game on Saturday start tonight, thought it was only 4 required? That bench has more Dale appearances than whole squads in recent years.

NL Cup v Blackburn u21s on 09:17 - Sep 17 by TalkingSutty | We caused Southend all sorts of problems in the Play Off game for 76 minutes and that was without Mani, no reason why we can't do that again. I watched Wealdstone beat them a couple of weeks ago and defensively they were all over the place everytime Wealdstone went forward. On the flip side they are decent going forward themselves and Dallas is a handful. A repeat of how we approached the play off game, minus the stuff we saw after 76 minutes will be good enough to beat them i think. I'm assuming McNulty will have seen footage of their recent performances and will realise that attack will be our best form of defence on Saturday, safe in the knowledge that we have a goalkeeper who is proving to be reliable and a slimmed down version of EEL who has been one of our standout performers this season. I think he'll start with Amantchi, he's been in front of Hendo this season who hasn't been on the bench recently. Amantchi needs the ball playing in front of him, he's always got his back to goal when he receives it. His physicality and height will be useful. If he can't be trusted to start then we need to bring in a replacement for him because we would only be left with Hendo as a recognised forward and he's slowly being put out to grass. I don't view McBride as a goalscoring forward. They are all capable anyway, whoever he picks. [Post edited 17 Sep 9:26]

Of the 8 players fighting for a first team slot, excepting Myles and Hogan who have very specific support roles and the 2 injured players, this is how I see it from performances to date. Good so far. McBride, Moss. OK. Pettit, Burger, Humbles, Gomez-Mancini(may be injured), Griffiths Not proven. Amantchi I would say McBride with 3 goals from 2 starts may be pushing Barlow (1 goal in 6 starts) for his position as a backup striker. From his body language last night when subbed by a 40 year-old Hendo he was not happy. However Hendo did more in his brief appearance than Amantchi in the rest of the match. He reminded me of Mitchell at the end of last season when he didn`t want to be here. Berkoe looks an ample replacement, but maybe not a central defender. Could push Allarakia.

NL Cup v Blackburn u21s on 22:24 - Sep 16 by Delboy | Burgers body language and facial expression spoke volumes after he scored. He is obviously far from happy with his current situation within the squad and was only used today when Mancini was injured. Pettit looked to be trying to gee him up as they walked back to the centre circle after the goal. Always thought it would be tough for Jim to keep everyone happy. With Mancini injured again it might be an opportunity for Burger to re establish himself in the matchday squad ? I hope so. |
Said exactly the same after he scored, looked decidedly unhappy but still did a damn good job when he came on....

Berkoe had a decent game last night and i agree with your player ratings. I disagree in respect of Barlow and McBride though, i think Barlow alongside Mani is one of the first names on the teamsheet. Barlow is the most technically gifted player we have in the club and he makes us tick. McBride has started the season very well but at the moment the results dictate that he is unable to start games. I think he performs better coming off the bench rather than starting games. I don't see the point in signing Amantchi if he isn't third choice striker behind Mani and Rodney. He deserves his chance on Saturday but the manager sees him in training so it's his call. If he can't be trusted to start then it creates a problem because we are then reliant on Hendo who hasnt been in the matchday squad recently. If the forward line did need shape shifting i'd like to see us take Billy Waters from Oldham on loan, he's out of favour and not featuring on matchdays. I think our style would suit him and he knows where the goal is. He has a bit of the Chris Dagnell about him. [Post edited 17 Sep 12:03]

I notice the Walsall manager has said he is not happy with Amantchi`s minutes. Unless he pulls off a sterling display on Saturday, maybe action is required along the lines you suggest. Jim is sensitive to his players` attitude and can`t be too impressed.

Amantchi only really gets into the team though if Mani is missing, he doesn't get in ahead of Rodney or Mani. I'm hoping he will start on Saturday because he deserves his chance having spent most of his time on the bench. Not sure what you mean about his attitude, do you mean Amantchi's or Walsall's manager? You can see Amantchi causing problems to defenders at this level but i'm not sure if he has the technical ability with the ball at his feet to fit in with how McNulty likes us to play. That's my first impressions of watching him but we'll have to trust the manager to make the right call. Making the Walsall manager happy is irrelevant to us as a club.

Berkoe was the standout player on the night. Even when he played out of position he looked capable. Good signing. McBride is better than I realised last season. He looked a yard short of pace last season, but that must have been a figment of my imagination. He has cemented the position of being an early change on first team match days. Agree about Burger sending a strong message. He is a decent player at this level, but I’m left with the impression he doesn’t have the maturity to deal with competing to get on the bench and then for a starting spot. He needs to make a different statements than the one the other day. So far so good. It’s good to be in a position where Brackley aside we are only finding small bones to pick over about the management.
NL Cup v Blackburn u21s on 13:24 - Sep 18 with 1733 views | 49thseason | I thought Humbles had a good game the other night, neat and tidy, available to receive the ball and capable of making a telling pass, somewhat like East. He stitched the lines together nicely. Burger always gives the impression of being a man on a mission, involved, taking up decent positions and clearly wanting to impress, perhaps a bit frustrated by those around him who are maybe not seeing what he sees instinctivly. We have talent in depth, perhaps a bit too much to keep everyone happy, but a prefered position to be in than no depth and not much talent. Keeping everyone motivated is problematic from Manchester City to Truro City, these youngsters are here to advance their careers by being in the shop window not to make up numbers I guess games like Burnley and Blackburn represent opportunities, but starting first team games is where the real action is....its a managerial problem, no question, there was a time when teams would give their best youngster an extended run in the hope that they could sell them on, but they have to perform when opportunity knocks and give the management team a headache...the problems arise when you have a team at the top of the division with a realistic chance of promotion and need to keep the winners winning....

I meant Amanctchi`s attitude as he walked off the pitch. Must have been one of the slowest walks for a 6`3 athlete ever. Clearly wasn`t happy and quite prepared to show it. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

He might have just been disappointed that he didn't make more of an impact. Hopefully that was the case. A early goal against Southend will lift his mood.

A friend of mine has resigned for his local Dog and Duck Sunday League Team it's a £50 signing on fee (the squad required a new kit) £10 per game, £5 weekly training, the players pay for their own fines, travel and wash their own kit , purely pay to play armature football, the Club have signed 4 - 5 new players this season, over the first 3 games my friend hasn't been involved, not even on the bench, my friend, has it happens isn't a bad player however, he is well aware that if he raises his situation with the manager then he'll be told something along the lines of "I can only play 11 players and pick 5 subs and we have 25 players singed" if he sulks or kicks off he knows he'll be told like it or lump it and/or shown the door ! My friend knows full well that currently the time isn't right for him and that come February there'll be injuries, suspensions, Ikea with the Missus and too many pints supped Saturday night, he'll suck it up and bide his time and continue to attend training giving his all, Mr Burger if you read this post please take note !
