Why do people call it this? You play on Saturday, Wednesday, then the following Saturday which is next week. So it's a two game week, no?

Edit: What would the schedule need to be to be designated a two game week?

Thought this for a while..

If the 3rd game is a Friday or the 1st is a Sunday, fair enough.
Otherwise it sounds like nonsense to me.

100% agree.

No logic to it at all.
I think it might have been a Warbs-ism?

I don't know, everyone seems to say it - Stéphan mentioned the upcoming "three game week" in his post match interview. Just another football-ism I guess

Whatever you want to call it, we're not very good at them.

It obeys the exceptional temporal law laid down by The Beatles.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

A mid week game…

It’s to minimise/maximise extremes depending on what you to convey

Nobody does exercise anymore it’s ’training’

I’ve noticed a big increase in this, normally to try and get out of doing something or make an excuse

I phoned someone at work on Wednesday this week and they tried to tell me the next working day is Monday i.e tomorrow when pushed they explained they just didn’t weren’t going to do it until then

Makes sense to those that play on a Sunday, Monday or Friday thanks to Sky.

It's three games in a week plus one hour and forty five minutes plus any added on time.

I think I'll stick with three game week.

Up to around 10 years ago it was standard practice for managers to refer to a "2-game week" when they were moaning about fixture congestion and player burnout. UEFA then invented international breaks in the domestic season in a cockeyed attempt to appease managers. Obviously this actually made things worse as 38/46 domestic league games now had to be shoehorned into fewer matchday weekends.
So, during their annual conference in 2015, The League Managers Association discussed ways to up the ante in terms of whining about fixture congestion. I believe Gary Monk (but the minutes of proceedings are not clear on this) suggested a gentle "nudge strategy" of constantly referring to a "3-game week" during interviews. Gareth Southgate did suggest that this didn't actually stand up to close mathematical scrutiny but was shouted down by Sam Allardyce who suggested that only (insert a slur-word about people with neurodiversity) would notice the discrepancy and they didn't matter. Louis Van Gaal and Jurgen Klopp then agreed to drop "3-game week" into every post-match interview. The LMA felt if these two bitter rivals were on the same page over the issue, 94% of listeners would believe the statement. Just before the packed Christmas schedule in 2015, all managers were given the green light to trot out what was now the accepted party-line.
That's it basically, it is what it is and it's too late to question it now. Quique Sanchez Flores has a theory that Cluadio Ranieri deliberately omitted the "3-game week" phrase from his interviews in order to wind-up his rivals. He spoke gibberish like "dilly-dang, dilly-do" instead which Quique reckons really got under Manuel Pellegrini's skin in particular. Quique further hints that it was these mind games which gave The Foxes the edge in the race to be champions.
