Without a shadow of doubt Ofgem are a joke, my monthly electric cost is high, mainly because my Koi pond costs me between 80/100 quid a month, just had a off the cuff monthly price for cost of solar over 10/15 years at my age its not worth it and if I move which I'd love to do making it a waste of money.

All utilities in the US are private. Energy bills are much cheaper there.

Our bills are high because of Net Zero costs and green levies. No other reason. "But, but Thatcher!" no longer works as an excuse.

You sound like a Simpleton. The kind of idiot who has kept Wales poor for generations because you lack the cognitive capacity to think beyond "Labour Good. Tories bad".

I bet you'll still even vote for them next time.

But you, and people who think like you are exactly the problem with this country. Happy parroting your Socialist Worker talking points and still fighting the battles of the 80's whilst reality passes you by at breakneck speed.

Going back to the original point, in many cases debtors can be tracked down and made to pay their arrears via the installation of pre pay meters where they have to buy their energy in advance because the unit price that they pay can be increased so that a small amount is used to pay back their arrears every time they top up.

In terms of our energy prices, net zero accounts for around 12% of the average annual bill which equates to around £200 per year and it’s been the same since around 2021. In terms of energy generation, Governments have sat on their hands for a long time and we’ve had many reports of a lack of planning and action to ensure supply meets demand in the future. I’m not overl6 happy about paying 12% extra, but it’s not as though it’s 50% higher.

What really grips me is we’re paying wind turbine owners to switch their machines off to “balance” the grid - wind turbine machine owners also turn their machines off which causes more gas to be used - I mean what’s all that about. The energy market needs a real shake up. There are definite advantages about a transition to clean renewable energy because fossil fuels are just going to increase in price, but it has to be done on a sensible pragmatic basis.

You do know she’s dead….along with her policies?
Numerous Govt have had the opportunity to reverse policies of the ‘80s….none have. They’ve carried on selling off the family silver. I wonder why.

Is that 12% on the utilities? because there's a significant cost on petrol/diesel too.

The turning the turbines off thing, the government paid over 500 million last year for that, these companies charge us a fortune for our power then they milk our taxes too, we get milked at both ends.

The bottom line is that the current inadequate infrastructure means that large wind farm projects in many locations are uneconomic, unless you guarantee payments for every KWH.
So that's what the Government is doing, agreeing to hand over money for nothing at rates above the current cost of energy, we high already over inflated because of levies.
It may be a good idea to invest in the infrastructure location by location so you can get the benefit of any additional wind power?

That's exactly the problem, the infrastructure cannot cope with all the generated power so it's turned off to protect the grid.

The question is, why didn't they build the infrastructure while the farms were being built so the power could easily be sent to other locations?

it's another complete brain fart by useless politicians. Make me wonder who gained from it, who signed the contracts?

They should cover car parks with solar panels, the rooves of all public buildings and even sports stadia should have to have panels where possible. But then the power would be free at source and the corporate goons don't want that.
