Free Tickets - Out of control ? 15:39 - Oct 8 with 1429 viewsUTS1885

A staff member at SFC was telling me yesterday theyve never seen so many free tickets going out the door this season and last.

What happened for Sheff united away ? did 200 tickets really get given away ?

I thought the club had come down hard on extra comps for away games for normal staff and only players got them?

No idea about home games, but those extra comps were one of the ways we got a fair few of our lot to more popular aways so was disappointed to see them go

Every time you log in to buy away tickets on the 1st day of sale there are blocks of seats already greyed out .

There was a block of around 200 seats empty at Hull .

So I’d definitely say the club hold back or give away tickets for free that don’t get taken up .

As for Sheffield I can quite believe they gave away tickets as a coach carrying ex players who were sat in the away end in prime seats ( Benali and coach were just to the right of me) .

The club gave travel with Midnite 1 coach was for “normal” fans and a 2nd one had the ex players and other special guests on .

It’s the same for home games , the club say it’s sold out but there are always plenty of seats empty ( more then just ticket holders who couldn’t make it)

So this 'Midnite' sponsor paid for travel and i guess tickets ? but it appears to be a jolly for certain fans/friends ? I first saw this mentioned on twitter, when a block seemingly wasnt available and the club saying all tickets had been taken.

I was trying to thnk right back in the days when st Marys stadium opened and ex saints players were given a hospitailty box to use for home games.

Im not against some ex players having periodic home invites, but im amazed with this coach sponsor event with staff and others not being on the same 'away game ratio' being infront of regular away fans.

For Sheffield United there was 3 midnite coaches with players on each. They might have used freebies to fill space towards the end as they weren't all full but that wasn't how it was originally.

The terms and conditions said you had to have purchased a ticket to apply. I bought in the first window and was offered a place and there were lots of away regulars on the coach I was on.

Hadn't heard much about it before this and took a look, seems like it's a way for our "influencers" to jump the queue on away tickets, which is an absolute f*cking pisstake.

That lot really are a big part of the problem with modern football, why some din who likes to stick a sh*tty mic infront of his face should get precedence over genuine lads the follow saints round the country baffles me.

you needed to buy a ticket and then submit a form which i did and luckily got a seat. The coach i was on had plenty of spare seats on it which suggests people were too bone idle to fill a form in so dont whine when a sponsor gives something back to the fans.
With reference to those blocks of seats greyed out i think you will find a lot of them are people who used to hold the old away season ticket and still do.

Those reserved seats that don't go on sale are in prominent positions too, like the front row of the Itchen, so you always get fans of other teams, especially Pompey, saying look at all the empty seats, even for the derby game. Other clubs don't appear to do it, at least not in such obvious places. The Pompey fans had a field day on social media with the photos of the empty block in the middle of the away section at Hull. I've not seen anything like that in our away section, which again shows other clubs don't do it.

Isn't it some kind of "Corporate" season ticket?

I think they get first dibs on away tickets, rather than an away season ticket as such (?).

What is an ‘influencer’? Anychance they could influence Sport Republic on a few things or is that more of a ‘Cortese’ level thing?

an influencer is a public school kid who's not from southampton, loves sticking a camera infront of themselves and telling every one that our players "cook" or that "it's not that deep", whilst brown nosing the club and making us look like absolute divvys.

Every club has them these days and they really need putting into a bus with the doors sealed and driving into the solent

When St Mary's was built its actual number of seats is slightly more than the actual licensed capacity, the front row Seats in the Itchen were supposed to be for the carers of disabled fans, but with good facilities elsewhere, it seems that there is little take up for them.

The view can't be too good from these seats as you have the dug outs in the middle.

So even with a sell out game at St Mary's you will have empty seats and you will always have season ticket holders who can't make it due to holidays etc

If the seats are available I can't believe the club would not sell them, after all they are a business and looking to make money.

Youre right, there was a bus load of guests on one however.
