Wales v Belgium: WCQ Match day thread UPDATED on 15:13 - Oct 14 by Fireboy2 | Got back home about 1.30 after a decent 3.5 hr drive. Still p!ssed off with the result, 1 dodgy pen, 1 stonewall pen, a cracking goal from them that shouldn't have happened, sorba 🙄 and a 4th when we were pushing up. Even though we created enough chances to win the defense let us down yet again. Something has to be done about that. Lucky that we have got a play off place, north macedonia will play the same way as Belgium so we really have to score as many as possible against Liechtenstein to level the goal difference up with macedonia as we could drop down into a lower pot therefore making it even harder to get tbe the WC. I was confident before last night, I am not so today 🙄 |
As poor as Liechtenstein are it will still take some doing to put six past them to level the gd up

They have a goal difference of minus 23. More importantly, we’d have to beat North Macedonia anyway, and every goal we score in that game also counts as a goal against them, so we don’t need to stick 6 past Lichtenstein to level the goal difference. 2-0 in each game would make 6 goals up Edit - I’ve just looked at the table. I thought we needed to win both and make 6 goals up. We don’t. It’s effectively a cup final against North Macedonia. A point in Lichtenstein is enough, then we have to win the last game (albeit against unbeaten opponents who will be coming for a 0-0). [Post edited 14 Oct 16:29]

I seen something last night on 'We Global Football' that we are projected to be in pot 1, think it might be something to do with Poland having to play the Netherlands and Malta, so we might currently be in pot 2 yet they expect us to win our games and perhaps Poland not too.

What's your thoughts on Wales getting to the World cup FB? it's all up in the air for me the pressure of the next two games will be immense.

Looking at those teams, there doesn’t look a lot between most of them. Italy in final would be a sickener if we didn’t make it into pot 1. Other than that, we could beat anyone there, but could just as easily lose to any of them. Very level playing field IMO.

Defence was all at sea in that first 20 v England it was better last night, but it had its moments last night, Nico Williams had a few moments Cabango got caught out position more than once and Rodon likes to wander up the field far to much, Ben Davies looked out of sorts as well, he needs game time at Spurs to, he hasn't a game or an appearance for Spurs so far this season I don't think.

Can you just kick the ball towards a defenders hand now and get a penalty? It’s hardly beyond skilled players to try that if they know they will get a penalty, he was only a few yards off him ffs. That changed the mood of the game last night, Belgium looked good but that gave them a massive boost. So unfair

The UEFA interpretation of the handball rule is different to the English interpretation according to Bellamy. England needs to change for players to understand how to play it on International duty.

Its a joke and the ref was also a joke, pandering to the theatrics of the Belgian players, they were embarrassing but it got the job done Perhaps we need to do the same.

We need to be more street wise, saying that there was no excuse for the 2nd penalty.

They were very good at playing the ref. Little tactical fouls, feigning injuries and time wasting when we had a bit of momentum. Not nice to see, but they did it well. Trossard is one of the few players I dislike and couldn’t really tell you why. Very good, but comes across as obnoxious and a borderline cheat. Not sour grapes though, they deserved their win

Looking at the play offs. Our players playing for Wales or another team could play three matches in 10 days then go straight into the difficult Easter fixtures of three matches in 8 days. It's not going to be easy on our run in.
