They have qualified along with Saudi Arabia. Already the lunacy of extending the tournament to 48 teams is showing its impact.

As Pat has said, they've already qualified. It got quite a mention on T/sport yesterday morning with Jeff Stelling apologising for the Verdian accent of the player about to speak. The player couldn't have been more Irish, Stephen someone or other, but certainly sounded chuffed!

Next steps include an injury to a crucial player, a change in tactics thus, more defensive and adjusting our style according to who we play instead of playing to our strengths, a loss to one of the usual teams such as Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Holland etc.

Well, we are one of 7 or 8 who can win it. The big thing is can we win the matches that count. And this is why they got Tuchel.

Spot on jopreston, wash rinse and repeat just the same as every major tournament since 1966. Then again nowadays it’s not really about football is it ? Sponsorship income from big business with no doubt another minor change of shirt to sell at £125 a pop to the easily influenced. Doubles all round at the F A and F I F A to follow ?

I guess to anyone under the age of around 40 my post might seem a bit negative, but it has been like that since i started watching England in the 70's. We should and could have won it in 86 and 90, but on both occasions like Saints, we bottled it and became bridesmaids as ever. OK, little bit unlucky perhaps in 86. We just don't seem to breed the winning mentality at international level for some reason. I will be the first to eat my hats and kneel before Tuchel if we win it.

The players that Tuchel has at his disposal is incredible. There will be loads of very good players who won’t be going to the WC next Summer. There will players are definitely there, it’s just executing a tournament now where they have gone desperately close in the last ten years or so.

I think the Serbia away game was a bit of a turning point. We looked a totally different side that night, whereas the previous games under Tuchel had been on the dull side. I do think that he is going to have a problem trying to fit Bellingham and Palmer back into the team. And I don't even see Foden being an option. As ever, the Achilles heel may be a lack of back-up for Kane. Watkins is a good Prem player, but not elite level. I think Delap has the potential to go all the way, but this tournament may come too soon for him.
