We should have brought in a permanent no.2 who would play, but now wouldn’t be surprised to see Smith return from Barnsley. Yes, he made a bad error for the York second, but prior to that he’d done well and fit in well with how we play. By January, it may need reviewing again alongside the rest of the squad (City may recall Whatmuff too)

It is absolutely in everyone's best interest for Whatmuff to say with us for the rest of the season and if we get promoted next season as well!
| Oliver Whatmuff England on 07:47 - Oct 23 with 1409 views | Daleaholic | Best form of defence is attack. We need to be going at all three teams from the start and make it a situation where regardless of who is in net, we'll win. Borehamwood showed how vulnerable York are when you attack them and we need to (and can) exploit that. | |

Getting the fixture played at the earliest reasonable opportunity is far more important than the availability of any individual player As i said earlier, let's deal with it, and stop having kittens otherwise the psychology of players being absent for other reasons becomes self-defeating [Post edited 23 Oct 10:32]

Could have played it this week then. And I'm not having kittens - just realise the value of having a really good keeper and Southend is a game we really need to win for more reasons than just the 3 points on offer - and in my opinion having Whatmuff in goal gives us a better chance of that.

Did you read my posts about the value Whatmuff brings to our defence? The mewing isn't worth it. Maybe Southend didn't want to.play this week? Who knows, but let's just take each league game and set about playing it with a positive attitude, regardless of who might be missing from the matchday squad. That's what strong teams do [Post edited 23 Oct 11:13]

That's a good point about Southend. Both clubs and the league have to agree on a date. Maybe Southend didn't want two trips to Lancashire in the space of four days; maybe Dale wanted a free week before the long trip to Woking; maybe the league suggested we play it ASAP due to potential issues further down the line with our pitch; maybe both clubs were waiting to see how the FA Cup panned out (had Southend been knocked out, we could have played it a week on Saturday, and on a similar theme, Dale and Southend could yet both be free on the Saturday of round two, which may see a further change). There are so many factors involved.

The young lad is doing a great job but let’s not go overboard. The success so far is built on all who have played, his enforced absence will be felt but should have little to no effect on what we can achieve without him. Let’s be happy we can hang on to him a little longer

Unfortunately for Trafford (and Whatmuff) Donnarumma is only 26 years old! He could be City's Number 1 keeper for the next 10 years!
