Anybody attending a Church or Chapel service tomorrow (Christmas Eve)? 19:14 - Dec 23 with 13110 viewsLohengrin

Just out of curiosity are there many (or any) contributors on here attending a service tomorrow?

An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

I would like to go if I'm up to it.

But as a Christian it's no big deal if you can't at Christmas.

No.

There are no Gods.
No heaven.
No hell.

When you die that's it there is no afterlife.

Just check the news to see the effects of belief in a bunch of folk tales made up by Middle Eastern goat herders thousands of years ago.

It's not good.
Not good at all.

The news is generally bollocks piped to the masses so international finance can steal countries' natural resources. Afterlife isn't generally mentioned, not even after cat rescues. Organised religion has of course been used as a medium of control for millenia.

Do you really think 'this' is it though?

No gods, creator, heaven, hell?

We've been driven from spiritually to materialism for centuries until the only 'God' has become the false idol of money. The usurious invention of the adversary himself.

There's more than that isn't there? Surely?

If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face--forever.

So you eschew the god of money but may embrace the god of sky fairies. Just in case. C’mon man. You used to be cool.

No.

I don't think there is.

Life just happens, its just a chemical reaction from organic compounds coupled with an immense amount of time and I believe is a common and widespread occurrence throughout the Universe.

Nothing more to it then that.

Certainly no Gods,Sky Pixies or other assorted deities.

"But organised religion is a means to spread hatred and is used as a control device on the stupid by the clever.

Oh! please! That reads like some hackneyed, juvenile cliche culled from the inside page of The Morning Star. It must have pained you to type it. I'm picking my 87-year-old Auntie up tomorrow so she can sing a few hymns and listen to a Minister evoke the Golden Rule before coming up to ours for tea.

So you'll be taking Auntie Ortrud to Mass tomorrow?

Religion is of course for the individual. But me and mrs85 we take our children to church on xmas eve, as they are both quite young and they do a collection of presents for children who won't get any. This is not because we are religious at all (me and mrs85, the children can make their minds up later) but we want our children to know there are many who won't get presents.

It was pretty embarrassing 2 years ago when our youngest had a meltdown and wouldn't let go of the present at handover!

'Ortrud!' You've either plucked that out of thin air or you really do know your mythology. I'm guessing it's the latter and I'm impressed.

Straight and to the point as ever Mr Hunt.

Don't get me wrong, oblivion's cold embrace would be welcome after this f*cking utter asylum, I'm just wondering if we get off that easily. I'm happy enough for the former. Maybe I spent too much time up the Bwlch fields as a youngster

I think that people are generally charitable and helpful to those in need, the tragedy at Grenfell Tower being a recent example.

I commend the work done by organisations such as the Salvation Army and other charities.

But organised religion is a means to spread hatred and is used as a control device on the stupid by the clever.

What about those kiddie fiddling Papists then Loh?

Going to mass tomorrow?

The Salvation Army although a recognised charity is first and foremost a religious organisation. Services held every sunday.

The social work they do in the local communities is phenomenal. I am led to believe they are the biggest social services provider after the government.

Talk to the older generations that lived through the Second World War and see the respect that they have for the Salvation Army. They still support the troops, and they are usually there when there is a disaster supporting the emergency services. They work with the homeless, those that are drink and drug dependant, refugees and have specialist people to deal with human trafficking. And that is just the tip of the iceberg of the work they do.

The people of the Salvation Army in Swansea usually give up their Christmas Day to provide Christmas dinner for those in need or on their own. As will many churches and chapels in wales.

That said, the main drive behind their work is their religious beliefs.

For Anybody interested in history etc, it’s an interesting read how the Salvation Army developed, their founder being a Methodist who believed in working with the drunks and the homeless. Early members would be attacked for their beliefs and the social work that they did because the publicans and brewery’s saw them as a threat.

I never pass a collector in the street from this organisation. You never know if you will need them.

Loads of the Salvationists in Swansea, Morriston, Gorseinon and llanelli are massive swans fans. Although some do not attend games on a Sunday due to their beliefs.

And to reply to the op. I won’t be in a service Christmas Eve but will be Christmas morning.

That as may be, but the f*ckers still have to be warned not to double park in Morriston on Sundays.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Each to their own I say. Make your own mind up and be at rest with that. Let's not decry anyone's beliefs, especially at this time of year.

Peace and goodwill to all my chums on Planet Swans, SCFC's number 1 fan website.

Quite right Fath. Personally I don't have any religious feelings myself but people who are very close to me do. And I respect that.

The important thing to me is how that religious faith is used. If you choose to help the homeless and be nice to people and generally be a nice chap, as Jesus, or whoever, intended, then I have no problem.

Unfortunately, some people use their religion to be absolute rotters.

If you use your religion to fly aeroplanes into buildings, steal land off innocent people or harass anyone who is a bit different ie gay people then you can f*ck off. I don't respect your religious beliefs.

Be nice. If your religion says that, I'm all for it.

Picture an even more twisted version of Lady Macbeth with the lovely voice of Dame Gwyneth Jones, Hump. She was the daughter of the King of Frisia, wife of Count Telramund in Wagner's take on the Grail romance. A sorceress and all-round nasty bit of work out to do down the Swan Knight Lohengrin at every turn.

It doesn't end well for her. I mean, this is a Grail romance after all and if you're going to pick a fight with anyone doing it with the son of the purest Knight of The Round Table beloved of God himself probably isn't the best idea.

An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

They’re a big business winning huge government contracts to provide social care. They also have a massive property portfolio ( see also: England, Church of) - a lot of which is used to provide their “officers” with free housing for life.

What you gonna say when St Peter turns you away from the pearly gates?

If God, St Peter and Jesus don't gather round to watch Die Hard on Christmas Eve then frankly I suspect I'd be happier with Satan.

Die Hard would be a good nick name for old Jesus, tbh. Imagine being a Roman, nailing him to a cross, then a few days later he's back in town giving it the big one. Would also make him sound Welsh.

Good luck, Mr Cooper
