Swansea City v Preston North End : Matchday Thread 21/22 AFTERMATH 09:57 - Jan 17 with 13066 viewsNotLoyal

Here it is the matchday thread in front of people at last, where people normally go when these games take place with no people is anyone’s guess. To the toilet ? British Home Stores ? C&A ? Debenhams? Dereks Records? It’s all here the game against Prestonpans is here.

Joshua Smith, nee tree, will be the referee when Swansea City host Preston. The Bedfordshire official is taking charge of the Swans for just the third time, having had the whistle for the home meeting with Stoke and the trip to take on Fulham earlier in the season. So it was his fault then. Smith began refereeing in the EFL during the 2019-20 season, and was promoted to Championship duties last term.He will be assisted by Sam Lewis and Jonathan Hunt, nee 😂 while Leigh Doughty is the fourth official.

People called Preston

Preston Robert Tisch (April 29, 1926 — November 15, 2005) was an American businessman who was the chairman and–along with his brother Laurence Tisch–was part owner of the Loews Corporation. From 1991 until his death, Tisch owned 50% of the New York Giants football team and shared ownership of the team with Wellington Mara. Preston is dead now like a lot of people are, his brother Lawrence has a name on his house where he just lays around. You can only get in with a skeleton key.

Preston’s brother lives behind this plaque

Preston the bloke called Preston : Age 40, His name is Sam. Non descript nonsense singer called Preston was in the ordinary boys, who were a band apparently. He fell off a balcony once and found out anyone who goes on big brother is a complete and utter knob ( male and female) Lived in America, he has done nothing for years, has a fork lift licence, and if he hasn't he should have. Preston isn’t dead but will be one day.

Preston when he had a guitar

What people see in Downes performances is beyond me. He could be excellent - he was so poor in most aspects of his game today. People see what he could be not what he actually is!

You are joking right? Otherwise how to lose all credibility in a single post.

Opinions, hey.

Grimes is head 'n shoulders above all comers in that space.

Some perspective: Piroe and his advisors were desperately anxious Grimes was on his way, a key factor in stalling when signing. They wanted assurances. Fact.

Downes is growing as a steady understudy for Grimes's defence duties. Grimes is steadily advancing into more of an attacking threat, adding energy, dynamism in a high pivot.

Downes was rejected by L1 Ipswich. Downes his now properly learning his trade under Grimes' stewardship. Fact. And is developing nicely, for now.

.

He's got his back to the ball most of the time, then passes it back side wards and occasionally forward, an offensive player he is not, his set pieces are shocking.

Unfortunately he is not the player people thinks he is or want him to be, fuk me I wish he was myself, but he's not, people seem to get blinded by some of the good stuff he's done in some games, but game after game he fails in that aspect. Downes is far more dynamic.

Trouble on here Max is that folk latch on to: he get's stuck in, he lunges desperately etc, as though that's a good thing. FFS.

Getting stuck in in that space ain't no art no more, as it used to be. It's so yesteryear.

Simply put: our managers and coaching staff rate Grimes as top notch, they have done, consistently.

Yet the likes of the overly rotund Winstone and bitterly twisted BJ, and a smattering of others are continually unable to see that - what does that say ?

Girmesy is at the heart of Team Martin. Fact.

Well the faith in Grimes is misplaced, he stagnates our game in the most important areas, where we need to be moving the ball quicker, I fail to see why you can't see it.

Christie makes a huge difference. Along with Cabango and Manning who were also top notch he set the game alight.
Wolf looked like he has confidence issues hopefully so,e game time will improve that.

.

Not at all misplaced Max.

His confidence, timing and heads-up leadership exudes supreme confidence. The essence of brand Martin. Which is why Martin was so desperate to secure his extension.

Take Grimes out of the picture and we flounder, desperately. Just as we did when Downes was captain in that space most recently.

The massive, marked contrast when Grimes came on was beyond massive. And if so called fans can't see that, they ain't no proper fans, just wums. Like fat Winstone. Simplz.

Grimes gets a lot of stick because he's expected to create passes out of nothing. Supposed to move the ball quickly when there's often no one available. It's clearly the instruction to play lots of those short passes in the middle because everyone does it to excess, including the beloved Flynn Downes.

Grimes played well today. We could have scored two minutes in from his cross to the back post. Made almost as many tackles as Downes, with fewer fouls. The amount of criticism he gets is strange not because he's the perfect player, but because other players obviously aren't held to the same standards. Grimes "slows us down" despite Downes playing more short, safe passes and creating fewer chances than him. Why is one the second coming and the other holding the team back?

I don't see what he brings to the table including leadership, what leadership is that exactly? he maybe great off the field and great in training which is of course important, but its match day that counts for me at least, I can't remember the last time he took a decent set piece of which he keeps insisting on taking. He speaks well and he's probably a lovely guy, but its time he was relieved of the captaincy and benched, IMHO speaking as a fan of 50yrs and a tubby one at that

Leadership? That’s another area where Downes rips him apart. I’ve never seen such a wimpy and passionless captain as Grimes.

Today Wolf reminded me of Celina having a poor game. Fell over too easily all the time, made some poor choices with his passing.
But I can't judge him on half a game.
Let's hope he can step up to the plate.

Our problem is when we turn a team like Preston over in our half we HAVE to get the ball forward more quickly. Grimes is holding us back

Listen if you not got players running off the ball into space how fan he make the pass remember the pass is only as good as the runner making it if you not got that you not got the pass

Free kicks 25 yards out, give Manning a go. He is capable.
Grimes really isn't much good at it.

All about opinions in it, my opinion is that 90% of virtually every game grimes has got his back to the oppositions goal, can't you see that, or don't you want to see it?
I'm a fair minded supporter and will criticize anyone of them and praise them as and when, your quip in calling Downes the beloved one is a bit crass don't you think ?

Not saying Grimes isn't a decent player, but I'm notsure he's suited to the game Martin wants to play, he seems to want to keep the ball yes, but also wants to move the ball quicker and forward.

Downes always looks to go forward he passes forward when its on and drives forward to receive the ball, he's a player beyond his years that much is clear. he's 23 Grimes is virtually 27 nobody wanted him on the summer, lets see how many want Downs in the summer or in the next yrs.
