Here it is the matchday thread in front of people at last, where people normally go when these games take place with no people is anyone’s guess. To the toilet ? British Home Stores ? C&A ? Debenhams? Dereks Records? It’s all here the game against Prestonpans is here.
Joshua Smith, nee tree, will be the referee when Swansea City host Preston. The Bedfordshire official is taking charge of the Swans for just the third time, having had the whistle for the home meeting with Stoke and the trip to take on Fulham earlier in the season. So it was his fault then. Smith began refereeing in the EFL during the 2019-20 season, and was promoted to Championship duties last term.He will be assisted by Sam Lewis and Jonathan Hunt, nee 😂 while Leigh Doughty is the fourth official.
People called Preston
Preston Robert Tisch (April 29, 1926 — November 15, 2005) was an American businessman who was the chairman and–along with his brother Laurence Tisch–was part owner of the Loews Corporation. From 1991 until his death, Tisch owned 50% of the New York Giants football team and shared ownership of the team with Wellington Mara. Preston is dead now like a lot of people are, his brother Lawrence has a name on his house where he just lays around. You can only get in with a skeleton key. Preston’s brother lives behind this plaque
Preston the bloke called Preston : Age 40, His name is Sam. Non descript nonsense singer called Preston was in the ordinary boys, who were a band apparently. He fell off a balcony once and found out anyone who goes on big brother is a complete and utter knob ( male and female) Lived in America, he has done nothing for years, has a fork lift licence, and if he hasn't he should have. Preston isn’t dead but will be one day. Preston when he had a guitar

Our base was excellent today. Apart from the one hashed clearance straight to the Marvin Emnes wannabe we had no brain farts at the back that has been costing us lately. Christie is a very good signing and gives a real physical presence in both defence and attack. Cabango looks ten times the player now he isn’t been left exposed by laird. Manning brilliant again. Flynnidine and Grimes linked up a lot better today too. Grimes noticeably further forward when we were out of possession which helped our pressing game.
Only gripe I’d have is creatively we offered little again. I think smith and Ntcham are wasted playing in the positions they are and we desperately need a left sided player to replace Lati who did fine but again doesn’t fit the role.
Joseph showed a lot of promise too. All in all a good day.
Manning can count himself unlucky not to have MOM because Downes was immense, posters want him pushed forward which in my opinion is insane. Ben benefitted from Downes and Grimes always showing for him. Christie is looking like a big improvement stronger than Laird had a good game looked really tired towards the end. Wolfy looks like a player who will improve us really looking forward to seeing what he can do.
Downsides for me today were Corey Smith in one of the creative role is not the answer, and the really glaring Ntcham issue is he blew up after 35mins or did he have a knock that i missed. He really should have passed to Piroe for a tap in. Lati is the same as Bidwell not the answer as a WB. Kyle Joseph came on and threw himself about not really showed me if he is up to it but speaks volumes about Obafemi.

No fair play i m not having a pop as he was throwing himself across the lines defending from the front. Played for the team, my point was mostly about the fact that RM used him and left our pace on the bench. Worrying.

It's clear why Smith stays the course - he's a proper fighter for defending the line up top, driving the high press with endeavour and a mean streak.
Martin is a defender by trade. So perfectly understandable to leverage Smith in that space.
As we evolve, Smith will drop ever deeper, and the likes of Wolf/Joseph/Ntcham can excel.
All of this is entirely dependant upon securing a proper Darling at CB. Our biggest development opportunity, by far.

Yes, Ntcham had a knock when he took the ball off of their defender, the ref called it a foul, they both fell and I think Ntcham hurt his thigh or hip.

Ntcham had a knock to his hip after a tackle [not sure if that was the reason for him coming off though] which was deemed as a foul be a totally inept performance from a ref that should be at non league level.
Made harder work of that than we needed to. Lack of recent game time is an obvious issue, but the biggest problem remains the speed with which we move the ball forward. The midfield mix is still not right.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Grimes and Downes in the same side, couple that with Smith as well and there's the answer, Downes is clearly a box to box player for me and he's far more so than Grimes who seems to be the player picked for that position.

We had enough chances to win it comfortably, their keeper made a couple of good saves, but we could easily have dropped points near the end. IMO we move the ball well until we get to the last 3rd then we seem to get brain freeze. We are not far off a being a decent team if we can get the last part right.

Yep.
Can't really have Grimes and Downes in the same team, and as Downes is clearly a much, much better player that's an obvious call to make.

thought Naughton played a blinder today Cabango was great..Christie immense. Too much sideways passing first half when the options of a chip ahead or forward ball available.....purple patch after the goal then it was hearts in mouth stuff towards the end...what was that all about bringing on Fulton
Our problem is when we turn a team like Preston over in our half we HAVE to get the ball forward more quickly. Grimes is holding us back
Each time I go to Bedd - au........................

Cannot see Darling happening myself, another loanee at CB is a maybe, much to my dismay, but that's where we are at this moment in time.
.
No more loans apparently, Max, thank heck. Darling is the man.
We need to build with what we have, with a smattering of the marquee, top class loans like The Wolf and Cyrus. Immense from Cyrus esp.
We so need Darling to allow Grimesy Unleashed and to continue to kick on into the advanced red zone, and push Downesy way up from deep CDM/CB / lunging duties.
Darling is key to mid table, and beyond.

Need more pace up top and in getting the ball forward and that starts with the midfield three.

Your love of Grimes is commendable, but its misplaced Downs is far superior, in the position Grimes is. Their are the facts as much as that might hurt.

.
Opinions, hey.
Grimes is head 'n shoulders above all comers in that space.
Some perspective: Piroe and his advisors were desperately anxious Grimes was on his way, a key factor in stalling when signing. They wanted assurances. Fact.
Downes is growing as a steady understudy for Grimes's defence duties. Grimes is steadily advancing into more of an attacking threat, adding energy, dynamism in a high pivot.
Downes was rejected by L1 Ipswich. Downes his now properly learning his trade under Grimes' stewardship. Fact. And is developing nicely, for now.

What people see in Downes performances is beyond me. He could be excellent - he was so poor in most aspects of his game today. People see what he could be not what he actually is!
