Gave Ainsworth a deal, we stayed up and deserves his chance to carry on, though not convinced he will move us forward. Noticeable that the other teams fighting relegation did 'till end of season' deals, which seemed the sensible thing to do. Then revisit at the end of season. Of course our owners gave another 3.5 year deal.

And I hope he’s got a huge severance clause in his contract for his protection. As well as a bonus for keeping us in the championship. Why on earth would he have left a job he basically had for life to come for 3 months. He was hardly sitting dossing he was in a very secure job probably one of the most secure in the whole country.

Agreed, though I hope we didn't pay him a big bonus for keeping us in the Championship. We were eight points clear when he joined. A small one, fair enough.

Not disagreeing with the bonus suggestion Brian, we were 8 points clear but losing nearly every game and then some of the others near the bottom started winning, which I don't think they had until then.

I think you mean a 3.5 year deal was negotiated, as part of an offer to convince him to leave his lengthy tenure and more secure job at Wycombe.

I don't disagree. My point was that at that time, as was the case with other clubs at the bottom, it might have been better to give a short-term deal to someone and reassess at end of season. Agree that Ainsworth couldn't have been expected to take that option given where he was. Now he has been given it, and we are staying up, he deserves a chance to continue.

any team that goes on a run of 2 wins in 28 games is lucky to stay up imo

Don't think we were lucky overall / over the whole season. We were unlucky in a number of games under Critchley and we got lucky 1st half Burnley.

Agree with the posts that he starts the season then sacked after 8/9 consequetive losses. So gone by end of November..

Apologies Gareth -no doubting your desire and attitude, but you are going to have to prove us wrong

Staying up is a big achievement and a good start.

They’d mostly all downed tools
He came in and tumbled it straight away
Dropped a few
Then let them back in
Ain’t had a lot of time to change things
But he has !
Possession/Depression
Way things are I’d have 1% possession
If we’re getting 3 points

Yeah, a bonus if you are brought in on a short-term contract with one objective, gareth has been given 3 + years, keeping us up is surely part of the job remit. Bonuses for top 6 finish, or a decent cup run, maybe. For all he obviously loves the club, I'm sure he negotiated himself a nice wage.

Well said FB! One poster said to me last week that basically the club was doing GA a massive favour by "allowing" him to come in and manage us. Seems like people have forgotten that we had to ask Wycombe's permission to speak to him (and pay them compensation, if I'm not mistaken?)

All this bollox of move us forward , I’ll. e praying for a few places above where we have finished this season we are skint we won’t raise much from player sales in the summer , we will have a rag tag team of players who are grafters who won’t sit down when they feel a niggle or want to tie there laces , it won’t be pretty next season but it will hopefully be a team who gives to55 , this is sounding like the days of when Ollie took charge plenty hated him as well and some still do .

Sorry, Digs. You probably didn't realise how divided the "yes" and "no" camps are on this one. There's been some quite heated discussions on the other threads about this very issue. I think you might have seen some of the strong feeling there is on both sides of the argument now. I for one am already quite exhausted, having spent much of the last two weeks trying to argue my case (which was beautifully communicated by Westy - thanks, Westy).
Please don't take it personally Digs - nice to see you back on the Forum, because i know you weren't sure about posting anything again for various reasons. Don't let the temper of this debate stop you from posting again.

so how about ainsworth and warnoeck combination 🤔

I don't think we need that in all honesty, Digs. Richard Dobson is a brilliant Assistant Manager, and he's got all the know-how we need, of that I'm sure. Have a listen to the episode of the QPR Podcast that's being talked about on one of the other threads, and you'll see how impressive he is.
