manager on 14:38 - May 2 by PinnerPaul | When you say "Let him go" - you actually mean pay up him , Dobson and who knows who else, putting us in a worse situation finacially and we're back to square 1 manger wise. New bloke will want to bring in new players - they all do and on it goes. As Clive, me and many others have said, it hasn't worked for years so maybe, just maybe, the manager isn't the issue? |
It will do more long term damage keeping him IMO especially if we allow him to get his own targets in.
manager on 14:51 - May 2 with 2369 views | PlanetHonneywood | He's definitely here come August, not worth debating. Indeed, we couldn't afford to sack him if we wanted to. Now he has a preseason to work with, which is fair. However, the errors of those above and before him exacerbate the challenge QPR face but if, after this appalling season he stabilises us next season and, dare I dream, the calm oasis that's midtable safety is achieved, then I think that would constitute a very successful first full season. Of course, how he goes about it is the great unknown: rope-a-dope tactics and a head injury epidemic might have got us out of the mire this time, it won't take us far or put many bums on seats if it continues. Good luck to him, he's going to be busy this summer.

manager on 12:17 - May 2 by W7Ranger | Lucky? That's harsh!! Why lucky? |
Readings points deduction was a major factor in us staying up and we really rode our luck at Burnley last week with a mixture of great defending and some pure lucky escapes. Without that win we'd be in huge trouble. I think we've been lucky to stay up, our performances and results since December have been shambolic

any team that goes on a run of 2 wins in 28 games is lucky to stay up imo

but its a 46 game season, not a 28 game one. 3 points are 3 points are 3 points - in August or April. Not having picking out one result and saying without that we are down - not factually correct at the moment for a start and you could easily pick out half a dozen games when we were unlucky.

That Burnley game was a big one though, lose that and that Stoke game would have been a lot more pressured than it was. Nothing wrong with getting lucky but I think we did The feeling at the club shouldn't be one of well we did our job we deserve to stay up over a 46 game season, they should be thinking this was a lucky escape and doing all they can to ensure we don't go through this again
manager on 16:53 - May 2 with 2173 views | westy | Jeez what a miserable bunch. Talk about glass half empty. We’ve been on the decline through mismanagements in so many areas since relegation from the promised land. Is that all the fault of the managers ? Talk of the QPR way. Makes me cringe tbh. Fck me we need to get a grip of reality. We finally have a manager and assistant who care with their heart and soul for this club. They are both loyal, hard working and will give their all. They have helped keep the club in the championship through whatever means necessary. Was it pretty, no ,maybe in parts. Was it without faults, no Will they learn, probably. We are financially on a sticky wicket so can hardly see the job being craved for by Ancelotti or Zidane. When we win it’s the players who done it, when we lose it’s the incompetence of the manager. This is where GA is trying to make the club more cohesive and with that try to get the fans involved in that as well. Judging by some on here he’s got no fcking chance of that, though I’m hoping it’s just a minority on the grand scale of things. Fcking keyboard managers. I genuinely think people on here think they could do a better job. Yes we are all allowed our opinions that’s what makes football so great but let’s have a sense of perspective in where we are as a club atm. Yet here we are with a guy who had a job for life at WW and who gave that up to come here and who is going to give his all for the cause. I think some need to show a bit more of the loyalty that GA has shown already. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Sorry, Digs. You probably didn't realise how divided the "yes" and "no" camps are on this one. There's been some quite heated discussions on the other threads about this very issue. I think you might have seen some of the strong feeling there is on both sides of the argument now. I for one am already quite exhausted, having spent much of the last two weeks trying to argue my case (which was beautifully communicated by Westy - thanks, Westy). Please don't take it personally Digs - nice to see you back on the Forum, because i know you weren't sure about posting anything again for various reasons. No offence intended in my reply, nothing personal aimed at yourself. We all want the same end goal it’s how we get there where the differences of opinion occur. Apologies if I offended. [Post edited 2 May 2023 23:00]

It’s getting tiring isn’t it mate 😂 It will start all over again after Mondays game. At least we can relax on Saturday and enjoy the match without any pressure. Bit sadistic of me but I hope Huddersfield don’t get anything from their game midweek but then dump Reading on Monday. Prolong their agony for a few more days

manager on 05:10 - May 3 with 1662 views | ArcticHoop | He´ll stay. I like to believe that our ultradefensive style was only because we needed points to survive and then style doesn´t matter. Once he gets a full pre-season and few new players i think he will tweak our style more positive. Still i doubt we will be very entertaining to watch anyway, more like rigid, hard to beat kind of team. Actually i dont¨mind that much as long as we win games of football and it always easier if we don´t concede 2-3 goals per game. What i liked about GA was that he didn´t afraid to change things when change was needed and got us safe. It wasn´t pretty, but something which was necessary [Post edited 3 May 2023 5:13]

Never convinced by the boil bloke, never convinced by the err emm bloke, but am convinced that Ainsworth will change the dynamics of the type of team we are, basically a soft bunch of sulking prima donnas. The good thing for Gareth is he has bought himself a bit of time and hopefully implement changes to our style and recruitment that going down to League 1 would not have afforded him.

Haha! I don't mind either way personally, but its good to see another club having to face the music in the same way we had to. Either the EFL applies the rules proportionately to everyone, or it should do away with them completely (which it can't do now, without having to reimburse the clubs already affected like us etc.)
manager on 06:13 - May 3 with 1613 views | strikerace | Wow, the guy is brought in to save this disaster from relegation and he does it. Now because some don't like the way he did it, he is gone? He did what he had to do, he said this exactly in his press interviews. What exactly did he do wrong? He did his job. GIve him an off season and let him build a team. I appreciate that he played certain players, and sat others, in order to get the results he needed. It showed strength to make hard decisions. In every locker room the guys know who is playing hard and who is not, not many coaches and the confidence to play them.

manager on 07:49 - May 3 with 1521 views | Headington | Gave Ainsworth a deal, we stayed up and deserves his chance to carry on, though not convinced he will move us forward. Noticeable that the other teams fighting relegation did 'till end of season' deals, which seemed the sensible thing to do. Then revisit at the end of season. Of course our owners gave another 3.5 year deal.

I think you mean a 3.5 year deal was negotiated, as part of an offer to convince him to leave his lengthy tenure and more secure job at Wycombe.

Well said FB! One poster said to me last week that basically the club was doing GA a massive favour by "allowing" him to come in and manage us. Seems like people have forgotten that we had to ask Wycombe's permission to speak to him (and pay them compensation, if I'm not mistaken?)
