I'm very happy with that. We've got rid of Martin and his stupid passing at the back, but we also need to make sure that we get rid of McCarthy asap so he can't do any more damage here in future. That game sums up how poor Russell Martin was and how the squad carried us through the playoffs not the tactics. Fulham are a good side and by not messing around at the back and in the middle of the park we kept a clean sheet. We have to accept what we are and that's a bottom 5 or 6 squad and play to the strengths we have to grind out results like today. If we get a couple more results over the Xmas period and play to we have rather than a pie in the sky philosophy we might make a fist of it | | | |

But I worry about our full / wing backs.
Where's Charlie Taylor.
Downes & Aribo are just not strong enough in midfield, Downes in particular cannot win the ball without giving a foul away.
And we're non existent up front,
AA continues to run around like a little boy lost.
Dibling looks decidedly disinterested now, I think his head is in a different place now.

Adam Armstrong is a good lad and a great Saint, but he doesn’t cut it as a PL striker.
Didn’t last time. Doesn’t this time around.
It’s a pity. Would love him to succeed but we should sell him to a Championship team in January.
We should build a team around Tall Paul up front, or sell him too in Jan. Think the new guy will decide this quickly.

Today's performance showed up Martin's and the clubs naive thinking.
It doesn't take a football expert to see we have a poor quality squad at Prem level and the hard facts are , to give yourself a chance to survive the first season you play like we did today ...pragmatism, grit, solidity and grind those points out, game by game.
