Hughen Riley, former Dale player has passed away.

Those fans from that era will definitely remember him with a smile. Great servant to Dale and a member of a great team.

Rest in Peace Hughen.

Minutes silence or applause in order on Saturday?
RIP to a key player at a great time to be a Dale fan.

Great player - what we could do with him in our current squad. Fully committed, athletic, skill-full, tenacious and chipped in with useful goals from midfield.

R.I.P.

That includes a memorable hat-trick in a game against (i think) Brighton, a 3-3 draw

With the loss of Vinnie Leech through injury, he came in and filled that gap, and more

RIP

Poll: What are you planning to do v Newport

This maybe a complete urban myth but I’m sure that I read somewhere when he was playing that before he’d signed for Dale as a youngster that he’d worked on the bins in Accrington?

Rubbish!

A wise man would be able to self-analyse and perhaps understand.

I always thought he was a forward, he did seem to score a few. Oh, for a player like Hughen in today's squad.....

RIP.

Think he started off as a forward but was converted to a midfielder and took Vinny Leech’s number 4 shirt.

Yes, he came into the first team in the 67-8 team but lost his place in the team when Leech was signed. Played one game in the promotion season. Then a regular after Leechs career ending injury.

I think he played number seven in a midweek game at Doncaster? I couldn’t go as it was a school night! The team were short of goals and Joe Fletcher had a handful of games there as well before Norman Whitehead reclaimed that particular shirt.

Good mate of Steve Melledew, often joining him at my grans house (Ethel nee Melledew) for pre match meal of potato pie, pastry crust and all. Nutritionists take note, I do not recall it affecting their performances.
RIP

correct….it was the only away loss in the first 9 away games that season and Docaster went up as champions.

His hat trick v brighton was in the first game after the coventry FACup victory.
