Fair enough if you live in the North West.

Even then though, you’re only talking easier access to maybe one game a season against a minnow.

I’d far rather forego that to have the likes of Wycombe or Stockport, who are never really going to be a threat to us, in the division.

We played them not long before they redeveloped,we had Emlyn Hughes and Gerry Francis in our ranks then, they were desperate times.

I went and knowing the terrace was being ripped down soon, I made sure to get out onto it and stand in the middle, it was absolutely ENORMOUS. Hard to believe Charlton could ever get a crowd that large back in the day, over 75,000 back in 1938 for an FA cup 5th round tie. They average around 15k at the moment.

Things were different then. It wasn’t the big business it is today. It was all about local passion.

And it was cheaper.
