Deliberately Weakened Team Today 22:03 - Mar 29 with 4340 viewsextratimeR

Apologies, very late to the board today, ( I'm sure this has been already mentioned),
but when I saw team selection today, I thought "He's got 50/50 players he is not sure about"
Why risk them against a Stoke team with a very good home record last seven games?

When next week, I will have a fully fit Alfie Lloyd, ( did well today) plus maybe all the others, against a Cardiff side we have a much better chance of getting a result.

Ditto…I was feeling the same. Such a thought would never have entered what I call my mind years ago, we always assumed it was 100% effort every match.
Was the game so much more honest back then ? Maybe not. Of course there were no forums to discuss these things, just mates down the pub and at work on Monday morning.

You mean he saw it as a “bonus game”?

If there's any credence in this, to say fans are being taken for mugs (again) doesn't begin to cover it!

I looked at todays team and thought how many Championship sides are starting the "Relegation run in" with no recognised Centre Forward? (All injured)

If we survive this final run in something has to change

(I know , we have this conversation every six months).

Anyway was very pleased with Alfie bashing the nearest Stoke defender

No it wasn’t.

As someone else has said you are implying Cifuentes was following along the same lines of Redknapp’s attitude to away games in the Premier League. I’d give him more credit than that.

I don't think not starting players who won't last the 90 is quite the same as playing a deliberately weakened team. We really can't afford another player breaking down.

So we now allegedly pick and choose what league games to put in 100% effort in as well as cup games.

It’s the ‘these players are not very good at 4-2-3-1, but never mind, I’ll keep playing it’ approach that I’m really starting to struggle with.

Field, Chair and Saito . Get better every game they’re missing.
What’s replacing them doesn’t cut the mustard unfortunately.
Sadly another season we can’t wait to get over.
We”ll keep coming back for more of the same though.

I suspect there is a fair bit of info we're not privileged to know.
We do know Lloyd has missed recent games with a groin injury. Is he only fit enough for 20-25 minutes? But, after that spineless 1st half, Marti had to shake it up.
Similar with Morrison. Had 2 long spells out. Is he fit enough to play 90. Especially with JCS out and Cook struggling. Can we take the risk?
Andersen's legs have gone. But what was the alternative? Madsen, Bennie or 2 kids from the DS?

We badly miss Field's off the ball work and it just shows you how poor the other midfielders are at doing the basics.

As for the OP , no chance he played a weakened team on purpose we just have a very poorly put together squad.

I think you’d take the alternatives of Bennie and maybe give Tuck a go.

It could hardly be worse and who knows, it might have made things better.

Probably would have been better received too, regardless.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

I know, but I thought, 'what the hell', and went for it.
Alcohol may have been involved, but it was quite liberating, to be honest. I burned my grammatical bra.
Anyway, a double negative would have been a positive, so I brought it back to the negative, therefore enhancing the vibe, if making it somewhat inarticulate.

You might have a point here, injuries apart there have been some strange away team selections since the Millwall game at the beginning of February. I would even go as far as to say that these away games are being sacrificed to give the punters a better display at Loftus Road. It seems strange that all these last minute injuries and illnesses tend to take place before an away match.

Posting on here as to avoid the attention of touts whom I've been snared by before, but if anyone requires a ticket for Cardiff, East Paddock, I cannot attend, so it's yours (if you want it)! Just drop me a dm.

This mate is so true, let's get back to pragmatic formation. Obviously we can't play Martis preferred formation, he seems to be very stubborn on this .

"Deliberately weakened"??

You clearly think our players are better than they actually are.

Back in the day if you had an injury crisis then a youth player would be played, Petrie is on fire for the development squad, surely he should have been called up.

from his options at the weekend the only player avaliable he could and probably should have started was Morrison, apart from that it was our strongest avaliable team

I don't think he had them all in the right positons and probably should have played a back 3 but that wasnt a weak team on purpose that is our team

I agree daveB.

It still leaves Dembele to start up front but not really too many options.

What formation would that be? Why would any new formation make a difference with 7 games to go? Perhaps if we had a fully fit squad available week after week there wouldn't be a need for any changes.

The grass is always greener.
