Bat first when it is sunny, who would have thought? Great innings by Harris. Hopefully the bowlers will be able to step up.

This is getting depressing. Beyond the Jennings, Bohannon and Harris we don’t seem to have any runs in the side. Balderson Hurst (one innings aside) and Wells have all struggled and the tail doesn’t wag. This is far from the expectation for the 4 day game this year.

The appointment of Benkenstein was an odd one from the start. He was appointed head coach for Gloucestershire from 2021 on a 3 year deal. when they were in the first division. They got relegated and struggled in division 2. When it seemed he may be fired, Lancs "poached" him from them. So it seems across the 2 teams we are approaching 4 years of failure. However although we are rock bottom there are hardly any points between 8th and the top 4. In terms of major non-cricket events, they are not having any in 2025 so won't be able to use that as an excuse

They have also confirmed their support for the coach and his staff. Possibly a case of head in the sand. 2 matches remaining to reach the half way stage and a long break. Need to win at least one of those.

CRICKET on 03:48 - May 18 by Nigeriamark | whoa Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Anderson his 1st wicket was a beauty. A painfully slow innings from Lancs, but if we can get through them today we should have a good chance of picking up a well needed win. [Post edited 18 May 7:59]

Lancs unable to bowl Derbyshire out They finished 8 down - match drawn Wasn't following it that closely but don't think Jimmy Anderson was given the ball to clear up the tail, which was one of his strengths

Watched the last 40 minuyes on YouTube and he had a few overs with the new ball. The lack of a good spinner told. Also not great when your overseas seamer bowls so few overs.

Spot on with your comment on the spinner. Hartley is OK but he cannot generate as much turn as Parkinson could. I don't think he is an upgrade at all on the bowling although he gets more runs than Parkinson With hindsight, our slow run rate in the first innings didn't help ( only 2 batting points even though we reached the 110 overs limit for points). We should have ensured they were in at least an hour before which could have made the difference. Only 1 game now to the half way break and still no win. At least we were the team in the driving seat this game unlike most of the others.

Hartley is a better fielder and batter than Parkinson, who is reminiscent of a wheely bin in the field and a rabbit with the bat. Parkinson is not actually playing for Kent at the moment as well. Hartley is a decent white ball cricketer. The Old Trafford pitches have been placid and as you say the run rate in the first innings, especially the first part was pedestrian. The only real positives from the first half of the red ball season have been Harris and Hurst. At least the likes of Mahmood, Wood, Livingstone and Green should be available for the Vitality Blast when it starts.

Are any of them signed by Major League Cricket? Blast clashes with that and we know which pays the most.
