Dembele has had a free ride this season 18:18 - Apr 4 with 7365 viewsnumptydumpty

Seems to be one that has escaped criticism this season.

Has practically been injured all season and when he has been on the pitch, there has been practically nothing happening.

Appreciate he was in a ridiculous position last time out but he has been a big disappointment for me.

I was extremely hopeful for the guy on the first few games. Was thinking how we have we managed to pull this one off. Couldn't believe we had signed such a player with such potential.

For me he is giving off Chris Willock vibes.

I want him to do well but fear he wont and will be another that is hardly ever available.

From what I have seen of both Yang and Saito, I think my focus for overseas would be in the Asian countries where work ethics is so much more of a thing. Is a massive generalisation, do appreciate that but I guess go to what works and maybe avoid small European leagues for now !!!

But yes Dembele needs to show something before the season is out for me.

He got a permanent contract and then got permanently injured and he has returned permanently out of form

Appreciate Madsen has not done well but he is one up on Dembele. He has been always available. Strange that by way of comparison, Dembele has not been criticised much at all by this forum. Maybe because fans think he could be good eventually. It's not been evident at all so far.

Just turned 22, his first season in the Championship, coming off a near season ending injury that required surgery, back into a team that is massively flailing and missing key support, attack and leadership where he's being asked to play a number of different positions to cover others.

Madsen not been injured at all. Comes on to the field of play. Has scored two goals and yet is abused always on this board and called names clearly not going to help, but that's OK because.....

Just said Dembele has been a major disappointment so far. Mainly because he has been injured but hasn't performed apart from couple of games.

It's just a board where we post our opinions

But there's no abuse from me. Just stating facts. Got injured immediately after becoming permanent. Just stated facts.

But people questioning Madsens parentage that's all OK. Hence the thread.

I haven't really been impressed with Dembele all season but with his injury he still has the benefit of the doubt.

He is our player so park him next to Kelman, give them a pre season and a chance to prove themselves at the club.

This is a good post, Marti has moved him around a fair bit. Not helped by the overall diminutive stature of our cohort.

Tough breakout year that hasn't panned out as hoped.

Build a team around Dembele, Chair, Saito, Anderson, Madsen, Vale, Min-Hyeok, by all means, but don't try and accommodate four of them in a weak as pss slow team who are incapable of passing the ball to team mates, take throw ins, keeping possession and get constantly out worked and out fought by the opposition.

Dembele needs a stable base to receive the ball in space to run at players. He needs a striker who can run off he shoulder last man. He needs physically aggressive and tall players around him who can do the dirty work.

He has none of that at the moment with us.

Today will be a hard, hard slog. Another game with no strikers and limited outballs. It'll be something like that first half against Oxford earlier in the season over the whole game. Just hope we scrape a 1-0...

Can we go out yet?

Just seems a slightly unnecessary thread .
You are entitled to your opinion of course so fair enough.

But Madsen gets more flak because of a number of reasons including , his price tag (which isn’t his fault but does matter to fans ), his position ,more experienced , his size , the fact that he’s been available but contributed very little in more appearances , there are others but the main one being he visibly hides in plain sight . It’s been noticed by everyone all season more and more that he takes up positions continuously where he CANT receive the ball . At best it’s a lack of confidence , at worst it’s cowardice. Even Dozzell when he played here would come and show and receive the ball deep .
The comparison doesn’t really stand up .

But my point being maybe , that we should leave the threads like this until we’ve either run aground to safety or smashed into the rocks and sunk. We should get behind them all now .
What I mention above is now in the past for the moment .
One thing is for sure that if Madsen somehow starts this afternoon I’ll be right behind him and supporting him rather than getting on his back .
Do I think he would respond to a huge backing from our fans? Not sure as he seems emotionless, but we don’t really have any choice now .
We need them all today .

Dembele looked fantastic to begin with but he hasn't had a good game for a long time. Maybe today's the day?

His quality was clear early on. Can beat a player on either side, can actually see and deliver a pass (remember the run and through ball to put Frey in for a goal at the school end? Do you know how a good a through ball has to be that it puts Frey in behind the defender!?)

He gets a terrible injury, comes back into a team that is pretty clueless/aimless with the ball and lacks any discernible patterns or cohesion, mostly as a late sub, playing various positions in an unsettled side without many players around him he can interplay with and the OP wants to coat him off and compare him to Madsen.

F**k me, he's young, he's ours, he's got great footballing ability (something we severely lack) and years to improve.

Why on earth do you want to start a thread to make sure he doesn't 'escape criticism'?

I do think we went too early on agreeing to buy him after a good start he did fade a little and I'm not sure where you fit him into this team but he clearly has ability and hopefully we can find a way to get the best out of him

Don’t get me wrong, I’m certain we’ve had players who’ve exaggerated an injury, especially calf and hamstring, but I don’t think you can fake a ruptured knee.

It was a gamble but he’d started great and the club would’ve got pelters for not sorting a deal out if he’d stayed fit, played well and been recalled by Brest in January and sold to someone like Bristol City or Norwich for a few million.
Think he’ll turn out to be a very good signing for us.

Exactly how bored were you when you dreamed this one up Numpty?! :) Mad post!

Anyway, whatever your reservations I think there's every reason to believe he can be a good player for us.

I thought in that interview they did when he was coming back that he seemed eager to manage people's expectations - talked about how it'll take him time to get back to form or similar words. Very bad timing with that injury and I think it's impacted him getting to know his fellow players as quickly as he otherwise would have. Shocking effort when through on goal last week but let's get behind him and get his confidence back up.

I think in fact if you had the time, there are many posts on this board about getting him to sign asap prior to his injury. Quite likely the OP too.

If he sees out the season and has a good pre-season, players like this can be a new signing - And as many forget, he is ours now and we should be backing players that will be here next season and want to be here next season.

Let's give him both barrels.

More hard working east Asians and fewer lazy n words. That's the ticket.

There is an interesting passage about laziness in Bad Samaritans: The Myth of Free Trade and the Secret History of Capitalism (2008) by Korean economist Ha-Joon Chang. Chang says:

"Countries are poor not because their people are lazy, their people are 'lazy' because they are poor."

"After her tour of Asia in 1911-1912, Beatrice Webb, the famous leader of British Fabian socialism, described the Japanese as having 'objectionable notions of leisure and a quite intolerable personal independence'. She said that, in Japan, 'there is evidently no desire to teach people to think'. She was even more scathing about my ancestors. She described the Koreans as '12 millions of dirty, degraded, sullen, lazy and religionless savages who slouch about in dirty white garments of the most inept kind and who live in filthy mudhuts'. No wonder she thought that 'if anyone can raise the Koreans out of their present state of barbarism I think the Japanese will', despite her rather low opinion of the Japanese. This was not just a western prejudice against eastern peoples. The British used to say similar things about the Germans. Before their economic take-off in the mid-19th century, the Germans were typically described by the British as 'a dull and heavy people'. 'Indolence' was a word that was frequently associated with the Germanic nature. Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, wrote in exasperation after a particularly frustrating altercation with her German coach-driver: 'the Germans never hurry'.

In other words, culture changes with economic development. That is why the Japanese and the German cultures of today are so different from those of their ancestors. Culture is the result, as well as the cause, of economic development. It would be far more accurate to say that countries become 'hardworking' and 'disciplined' (and acquire other 'good' cultural traits) because of economic development, rather than the other way around.

Indeed, Japanese workers used to be a pretty militant bunch until fairly recently. Between 1955 and 1964, Japan lost more days per worker in strikes than Britain or France, countries which were not exactly famous for co-operative industrial relations at the time. Co-operation and loyalty came about only because Japanese workers were given institutions such as lifetime employment and company welfare schemes. Ideological campaigns (and government bashing of militant communist trade unions) did play a role, but they would not have been enough on their own."

I believe if you dig out the person who serve the tea in the the Loft End you would have completed disparaging every single person working in some capacity at the club. As you have run out of personnel to have a dig at, and there are still a few games to go, maybe trying the Sponsors will keep you happy.

For the last fricking time, nowhere have I criticised Dembele

Nowhere have I said he wont have my full support

Many aren't reading my intentions behind what I am saying which I have explained

I have been reprimanded by many for starting this thread

Last thing I knew this is a forum where we are allowed to open up ideas and thoughts regards our team.

I have been told though that I should not post this on this site.

I.hope Dembele has a man of the match performance. Nowhere have I stated I am against him in anyways.

All I would say to every one lumping on me right now, i am a QPR fan.

I started a thread raising an issue for debate , not for criticism of a player, but it's been twisted and I have been told by a few to censor myself. I didn't say I was against him in anyway.

But yes he needs to step up his game. I hope he does but the facts are, he has only performed well initially and then has been injured and I fear he will continue to be injury prone

Nowhere are their criticisms but wow you are all lumping on me but apparently thats okbut it isnt to raise the non performance ao far of Dembele !!!

As said was just raising a debate..

Just turned 22, his first season in the Championship, coming off a near season ending injury that required surgery, back into a team that is massively flailing and missing key support, attack and leadership where he's being asked to play a number of different positions to cover others.

I was sleepily watching You Tube a few weeks back and a video caught my eys called "what ever happened to Kader Dembele " and it was a facinating look back at his career so far .First I want to make sure its our guy but he played for Celtic,Brest heee ,Blackpool and finally QPR. The whole time he had to rise above being too short and getting bad injuries and top of the list a poor attitude .
I see a player with lots of ability but he is just not strong enough for the brutality of the Championship and gets zero protection from refs as he hits the dirt on every tackle .
I still think he can be an excellent player but find his position taking on defenders not jumping for headers ffs

'Raising a debate' here tends to get you tarred as a provocateur/contrarian/conspiracy theorist, or just resentfully abused, by the cultist/moronic/sheep-like sub-group on here, as surely you've realised by now. You're right, and certainly entitled, to raise questions about Dembele, and fans who think for themselves will appreciate it. As for the others, don't let them upset you.

Nothing wrong with starting a thread like this Imo , but I'm not sure you shouldn't expect some posters calling you out as well. You've made yourself fair game. lol
Anyway, you've done this loads of times on here, starting something controversial but unable to see it through without getting hurt by others.
