"British taxpayers are now subsidising Chinese steel. We’re not saving Scunthorpe — we’re funding our own industrial collapse. They shut down British coal. Now they import it from Japan. They shut down North Sea gas. Now they import it from the US. Who exactly is this government working for? "

Quite right too. If the Tories did half of what Starmer & Reeves have inflicted on us there would marches to Westminster & Downing street every week. At least they can deflect all the issues to Trump, for now …

Everything that's wrong with the country has been inflicted on us by 14 years of the Tories.

Meanwhile in Wales, essential services under Labour control for 25 years have deteriorated beyond belief and lag behind the rest of the UK, which was mostly run by the tories for 14 years. Just accept that Labour are no better than the tories who are no better than Labour. We need a massive change particularly here in Wales.

And don't forget that there was a Con-Lib Dem coalition for 5 of the 14 years. Some of the Lib Dem "Orange Book" group were just as stanch in support for austerity policies as the Tories. They are not the answer either.

Couldn't agree more, Port Talbot blast furnaces produced the finest steel which is now imported to be rolled, a criminal waste to lose them.

And this electric arc furnace which is being built is only going to use scrap steel, not produce virgin steel, we have lost that capability for ever.

Both governments should hang their heads in shame

This government is as bad as the last one, totally incompetent and clueless, in giving our wealth away and killing businesses that we need and then importing the same products from other Countries which no doubt cost a lot more, so they think that their consiouses are clear in their pursuit of carbon zero, the senseless buffoons.

In the end they don't care though cause they'll just pass the cost on to the TaxPayer.

The Western publics is a World has been living a good life consuming cheap food clothing oil gas and electronic products for two or three decades. China ths dad east India are no catching up. They have escaped absolute poverty and the West has lived off a string currency and debt.

They are now catching up fast and the West is declining paying too much money servicing debt leading to the need to cut deficits. (Called Austerity these days). It is not an option.

This thread reflects this frustration. Our gold standard infrastructure is old and tired . A48 Severn Bridge is 60 yeas old and still going. It might get to its design life of 100 years

I wonder how China's shiny new bridges wilm look in 2085. I doubt many will make it to 2055.

UK people have become negative. The post Covid blues Brexit promises not going even close to being fulfilled. Those debt payment leading to reduced services and benefits and Athe Judiciary service the interests of people smugglers.

I recall Hilary Benn standing up in the HoC demanding the RAF bomb Syria. Hello look we gave some unwanted visitors 10 years later.

Funding directly proportional to that in England through the Barnett formula. Not enough money filters down, austerity in England = austerity in Wales.

We do. We need people to vote, and not for Reform - they'd be worse than the others put together.

The other and most important change we need is a politically neutral media.

What have they inflicted on us?

Killed any chance of economic growth with increased employer NI contributions
Plans to get rid of NHS (England)
Removal of OAP heating allowance
Reduction of savings & capital gains tax allowances
Holding up North Sea oil & gas production & exploration projects
Even higher levels of mass illegal immigration
Failure to align with Europe over Trump’s tariffs

… I could go on, but combine this with the gross incompetence in the Senedd & you should get some understanding that Labour & especially Welsh Labour is not working, just as bad as the Tories in many cases even worse

Kemi Badenoch might get me to look at Blue next time if I can find any honest Politician .

There's a lot of things children can't do until they are 18 for a reason and voting should be one of them. As for the tax situation if you work and earn enough you pay tax, it's that simple.

My 16 year old son will probably be exactly like that. He'll say walking down to vote will be too much effort. If he's not getting paid for doing something, it's too much effort

Increased recruitment in doctors and nurses
OAPS are still getting heating allowance - those who need it
North sea production hasn't been affected
i'm not sure about the capital gains

But for 14 years that haven't had the proverbial pot to pi$$ in. Labour in the Senedd especially under Drakeford haven't been great but the overarching issues are caused by austerity.

The covid waste and mismanagement by Westminster and the Senedd hasn't helped. What were they thinking about with all those field hospitals without staff to run normal hospitals let alone those. Basics ignored in blind panic, yes we do things differently in Wales, not.

Your first sentence is totally untrue, Wales has done better than England per person under the Barnett formula for years, but has consistently wasted it.

You carry on defending the indefensible

No it's not. Wales have had more than England, but less than Northern Ireland and Scotland.

None of them have had enough. Just look at the thread about ambulance waiting times.

I'm not defending anyone but the root cause for everything is Tory austerity.
