The club of Embarrassment 12:12 - Apr 14 with 4950 viewsSouthamptonfan

Can anyone think of any other records that could embarrass us further? No wonder the ground was empty at full time Saturday. We are being totally taken for granted, and they better sort things out quickly next year, or this club will go to the dogs.

Two record nine nil defeats.
26 PL defeats is a new record.
Successive home defeats is a new PL record.
2 relegations in 3 years.
A new striker that we bought 2 years ago, and now he has just played his first PL appearance because Saints decided to buy an injured player
No strikers at all, apart from two injured ones and a a youth player.
6 managers in 3 years.
Relegated with 7 games left is a new record.

Surely there must be some more records we could get??????

The club should be paying us, not the other way round. They better reward the long suffering fans with season ticket prices next season.

Regardless of Saints have done this season, you should thank whoever made you into supporting them and not choosing to be a glory seeking ‘fan’ of a club that you have no connection to.

And it’s embarrassment you want, look at the state of this…….

Absolutely / 100%

Blessed to be a Saints fan (for all its problems) and can deffo not be labelled a Glory Hunter that’s for sure.

Whilst 130 and Portchy tend to struggle with ‘facts’, at least (so far as supporting a non fashionable club goes) they follow a shït team too (whatever the latest guise / name)

'Oh and for your information, Pompey have had a top flight 10-0 defeat (strangely to Leicester), so any 9-0 defeat is not actually a record'

Apart from it is a Premier League record, both defeats, home and away, to go with all the other Premier League records you are smashing this year. Don't forget football only began on the advent of the Premier league..

My statement said 'top flight', which was the First Division back then and is the Premier League now.

Therefore your 'top flight' First Division 10-0 record defeat still counts.

As for the Premier League, its been what, 15 years (and counting) since you last featured ? It has been running for 33 seasons, so to have appeared in just 7 of those is rather embarrassing for a club of your supposed size.

Missing words again.

I think you need to start writing 100 lines again, as you seem to be getting back into bad habits.

Personally I don't give a f*** about what record or other we have got this season, but we do have an alarming trait that many of our fans seem to revel in highlighting the clubs shortcomings and seem to have absolutely no pride in it at all.

In my opinion and it seems that on this thread at least this is not the popular viewpoint, you support football clubs during the bad times as well as the good times.

In the past when times where bad, the supporters rallied round and protested, but also supported the team on the pitch, there was a difference, but now that seems to go out the window and those old enough to have been there back then join in with the youngers masses.

Most of our fans these days also moan about the modern game and new age fans taking selfies and photos of the game etc , but then boast about "3 goal rules" and see it as a badge of honour that they were in the pub or on the train home before the final whistle of a defeat.

Southampton Football Club is a great institution that in it's 140 year history has had it's bad times as well as good times, we have to own the bad times as well as the good times, but we always used to remain proud of the club.

On this thread I see little evidence of any pride in the club, in fact all I see is hatred against it, most times I have to bite my tongue on threads like this, in some cases to avoid falling out with people who are friends.

On Saturday when I was sat on 85 minutes in a stadium where we were only 2-0 down and it was less than half full in the home areas and Villa fans were taking the p***, that was my only embarrassment.

If the players show no pride, and keep embarrassing us with dreadful effortless performances, the managers keep making terrible decisions, why should we "show any pride?" Pride in what? Deliberate, effortless defeats? The fans did support the team from the off yesterday. The Leicester fans sang sack the board from the off. They got a good performance, we got players jogging around not bothering. Why should we give them support, like we did from the start yesterday, for them only to play like idiots? Let's not blame confidence or ability this time. Leicester are just as bad, but their players put the effort in and our players didn't.

We have now managed to lose to other terrible team in this division. We made Leicester look like Barcelona. We couldn't even put in a performance against a side that hasn't scored for 9 games. These players deserved the abuse they got yesterday. They are pathetic and an utter embarrassment to the loyal Saints fans. They can't even pass the ball. Perhaps it's time to hold these pathetic players and this club's pathetic decisions, that's so embarrassing for the fans, to account.

What's next? Well, it's Man City next.

The only player who came over to the supporters and gave his shirt to the fans yesterday was Ramsdale. Full credit to him. Any chance any of the other players bother to give something back to their humiliated, long suffering fans?

As someone else posted on a different thread, when Nick posts his match report on this latest debacle, it’s going to be extremely interesting to see where he apportions the blame this time around.

Poll: What’s your view on the prospect of Sports Republic selling?

What about this one.
We share the record of finishing BOTTOM of the Premier lge 3 times jointly with Sunderland & Nottingham Forest.
But here's a stat that we don't have to be to embarrassed about. We have had 22 games played on a Saturday this season, more than any other Premier club (we can thank Sky for that because they can't be bothered to televise such rubbish as we dish out).
We could use the argument that we are not jointly with Derby as worst team ever in Premier lge because Derby actually only won one game & we have won 2. ( clutching at straws here)

For all of Nick's enthusiasm and optimism the problem is I like most Saints Fans have little or nothing to hold onto as hope for the future. We all expect our brightest lights, Fernandes and Dibbling (who has been a shadow of himself since his injury) to leave. Our better, or should I say less worse players are out of contract or going to leave if they can. We are pinning our hopes on a DOF who has shown us nothing so far and a couple of Championship proven players. I seriously believe we will finish below of East Hampshire neighbours and will be having Derby Days for the next couple of years, possibly in L1

"Surely there must be some more records we could get??????"

Absolutely! One of those will almost certainly be a record number of defeats in a PL season. The record is 29 and we're currently on 28. That new record looks nailed on, even if we manage to beat Derby's points total (which would be a f'kin miracle in itself).

I've stopped going because I can't really see the point. People on this thread are talking about pride in the club, but how can you have any pride when the players don't show any pride themselves, not even professional pride in their own performances? Most of them are just going through the motions before they pick up their next big cheque. I've seen some shitty Saints teams over the years but nothing this bad in terms of effort, spirit and fight. There's almost nothing to get behind and support.

I can understand pride in Saints history but I can't think of anything at all about the current club to be proud of. I can understand fans feeling embarrassment or anger, but not pride.
